Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Forced Submission

Artemis’ POV

Amanita leaves her gaze fixed on me and I try to imitate her, with little desire to feign a submission that I do not feel. She smiles as I seek to feel the advance of the poison inside my body, but to no avail. Just like my handling of emotions, her ‘remedies,’ as she likes to call them, are undetectable until they begin to take effect.

But two can play at this game, and if she thinks she has an advantage over me, it's because she doesn't know who she's dealing with.

“So, Artemis...” she begins in a slow voice and pours some more tea into my cup. “Tell me about your progress with Beck and the pack.”

I shrug my shoulders and start talking before I even notice.
