Chapter 10: Chapter 10

"Oh, are those your friends, Kakashi?" a masculine voice interrupts them from continuing talking. They're outside, ready to part ways, but apparently, they attracted some attention. He senses Kakashi near an adult male, she can guess it's his father, Hatake Sakumo.

Gai is the first to speak out. "Of course, he's my eternal rival, after all!"

"Tch. He is lucky I—" Rin covers Obito's mouth with a hand and bows. "I'm sorry about them, Hatake-san."

Sakumo chuckles. "My, what lively friends. Why don't you introduce me to them, Kakashi."

He hears from here Kakashi's sigh, but he proceeds to say everyone's name. He's not that surprised he remembers Gai and Obito, as they often compete, but Yuki and Rin? What a nice surprise.

"Can we go home now, dad?"

"Oh, you little—" Obito says, clearly prepared to start a fight but Rin looks at him and whatever expression is on her face is enough to take the winds out of his sail.

"Don't you want to play with your friends?"

"I want to go train."

Gai has started saying things about hard work and eternal rivals, but Yuki ignores him for the moment. He doesn't know when he will meet Sakumo once again and while Kakashi is not his friend, not really, he's still someone he can admire. At least, the current him who one can see he wants to improve himself and be the best… that no one ever was (ha!).

And while he knows he will sound suspicious and weird, he really doesn't think he'll ever meet him alone. So yeah, better doing it now. Great powers, great responsibility, and all that.

With that happy thought, he steps toward Sakumo and tries to look him in the eyes. He doesn't think he succeeds but, oh well. Everyone's fallen silent at his action.

"Yes, Yukihira-kun?"

"Hatake-san, between Konoha and Kakashi-san, who would you choose?"

"What?" he says but Yuki tries to convey the seriousness on his face. It seems it works because he answers, "Helping Konoha means nurturing the next generation, hasn't your teacher taught you about the will of fire?"

"He did, but that's not the problem. If everyone in Konoha was against you, would you still choose Kakashi? Not to die and protect, but to live for?"

Now, he's got everyone confused, he can sense it.

"Yes, of course."

Yuki nods. "Good. Remember that. When you're down, remember that while Kakashi is pretty independent for his age, he's still a child who needs his father. Live for him." With that said, he moves away, ready to return home. He can hear his friends excusing themselves and running after him.

Rin is the first to speak when they reach him. "What was that?"

"I had just a bad feeling, that's all."

Gai is pretty subdued as he leans in to whisper, "Does it has to do with what caused your blindness?"

That makes Obito perk up from his gloomy self at being silenced twice by Rin.

… And well, so he has told them a little more than what his medical file says, but hey, can one blame him? They're pretty mature for their age and he knows they're loyal. Also, he intends to not let Obito be kidnapped by ol' Madara so it's all fine.

Besides, he just told them how Katara's template isn't the only one though she didn't mention anything about Mihawk or the origins of both templates, they do know he's a swordsman. And to excuse his future knowledge, he said he's seen a lot of things he didn't understand when he was in that dark place.

Yuki nods. "I just hope I can manage to stop it."

"Stop what?" asks Obito.

"I'm not sure," he says and when they see he doesn't want to talk about it, they stop and move on to a lighter topic.

It was not until half a month passed that Kakashi move up to a grade. Gai is fired up and working harder than ever to catch up. Yuki and his friends have to constantly remind him to take a break. He gets to prepare two bentos, one for himself and another for Gai as he usually forgets to prepare his own because of training. Rin also helps him with his theoretical studies. Obito is mostly moral support, as he's also working hard to catch up, too.

By the end of the semester, Gai moves up a grade, while Kakashi has done the same once again, too.

By the end of the year, Gai is finishing his second grade while Kakashi is ready for graduation.

Talk about overachievers.

Though that doesn't mean Yuki hasn't done his best, no sire. He knows he could have moved up a grade alongside Gai as his Mihawk template is also increasing his strength and theoretical work is easy. However, he has promised his father noto t do so. So instead, he does his best in class, easily taking the first place, while concentrating on increasing his templates percentage.

Is not until the end of the year that news broke out: The Third Ninja War is here.

The end of the year passes with them being allowed to access their chakra, which she's already done, and being told how to meditate properly, by concentrating on circulating their chakra around their pathways. It's difficult for some, but taking into consideration how he started doing a harder meditation technique thanks to Mihawk's memories, this one is a piece of cake.

He also now has a basic grasp of this world's story. Like how the second Ninja War started four years ago and lasted three, in which Hanzo the Salamander gave their iconic name to the Sannin. Mito died two years ago, which means Kushina is the new Jinchuriki and has already been kidnaped and rescued by Minato.

From Shizune, he understood that his big brother, Kato Dan, Tsunade's boyfriend, already died. Tsunade is now retired but still in Konoha, helping make antidotes but staying away from anything blood-related. She will probably leave after the war is over.

Also, from what he's heard, Jiraiya came just last year from what Yuki guesses was his time with the Ame kids, and now he's the teacher of Minato.
