Chapter 7: Chapter 7
Well, class 1-A? It sounds like the first class, or at least he hopes it is.
Asking another adult for directions to his class takes him five minutes. And another more for him to reach it. He feels it is half-full but he doesn't know if they're the class children or not so he'll have to wait for the roll call until he's able to know in which type of class is he in.
It takes another twenty minutes for the class to start and as he expected, there's a roll call. The teacher tells them to introduce themselves and she recognizes a couple of names:
"Hatake Kakashi. I like training and dislike Tempura and sweets."
The first of the people she knows of appears. He sounds monotone. She kind of hopes he's not too much into the rules, though he doesn't know if his father has died yet, or not. Better not to ask.
"My name is Kato Shizune. I—I would like to be a strong medical ninja, like Tsunade-sama. I like nature and brown rice."
She sounds pretty shy.
"Maito Gai's my name, future Konoha's green beast! I like training, especially repetitive sideways jumps and playing catch. I like spicy curry and Udon!"
As enthusiastic as she feared though she sensed a hint of nervousness in his voice and stiffness in his movements.
"I'm Nohara Rin. I like strawberries and collecting shells. I hope to one day become a healer!"
Hopefully, she manages to live this time around, she sounds like a pretty determined girl.
"Sarutobi Asuma. I like playing shoji and Tororo soba. I don't like asparagus. My dream is to one day be stronger than my father."
Sounds a little too arrogant for her tastes but he's a kid and the Hokage's kid at that so she should not judge.
Next, it's his turn.
"Greetings, everyone. I'm Yukihira Souma, please call me Souma. I'm blind. I like cooking, water and swords. One day I'll be the strongest swordsman and water specialist."
Okay, everything's said pretty fast so he doesn't think many will notice the blind mention between his words. It isn't that he wants to hide it, he just wants to avoid the hassle until he can prove his worth is no less than the others.
It doesn't work, unfortunately.
Everyone begins murmuring between each other, the front seat turning to look at her. She decided to seat in the corner near the window, like a chuunibyou wannabe. Luckily for her, the boy in front of her, who also turns to see her for a glance, stands up and shouts, "Name's Uchiha Obito, and one day I'll become Hokage, so don't look down on me, you hear!"
Aw, did he do it to silence the others and continue the roll call? How nice of him. He sounds like an enthusiastic guy, a total contrast from his gloomy, edgy future self. Is this the famous moe gap?
Fortunately, his trick works as soon the roll call continues. Several kids he doesn't recognize are being called until it's the turn of the last one.
"Hello, I'm Yuhi Kurenai. I like the color red and don't like cake and I wish to become a genjutsu specialist like my dad.."
A chill and polite person from her tone of voice.
As soon as the roll call is done the teacher proceeds to talk about their schedule, which he's glad to hear as he couldn't read the words written on the paper. Doing a summary, what he explains is basically what they will be taught in these four years.
First-year is a basic introduction to common subjects like math and history along with physical conditioning. They will also be taught kunai and shuriken throwing alongside taijutsu katas before doing some light sparring. At the end of the second semester, they will be shown how to access their chakra.
Second-year will build upon the foundations of what has been taught in the first year. Taijutsu spars will be more common and chakra control will be touched. There will be classes on tactics and strategy alongside trap-making.
Third-year will be more focused on more complex strategy and how to apply it to teamwork. Survival training was a must alongside the shinobi code. Finally, in the second semester, they will start learning the academy three.
Fourth-year instead will be when the students will be able to branch out, be it genjustsu, fuinjutsu, iryojutsu and medical training, more complex ninjutsu, specialized taijutsu, tracking and survival, strategy, and rudimentary kenjutsu. Of all these, a student can choose only two, which will be studied alongside the basic classes.
"Well, now that the introduction part is done, we will go through the syllabus of history lessons."
What follows is an interesting mention of the important points of Konoha's story, with some brief mention of the Warring States. All PG, of course. Also, it's obvious the teacher is doing his best to keep the lesson as exciting and light as he can. Probably because it's their first day.
After two hours of this, there are few fallen comrades, but still, the teacher claps his hands to regain their attention. Then he says, "Now, we will go outside to do a more throughout physical examination than the one done last week. Come on, let's move to the training grounds. It will be fun."
A lot of the kids are now wide awake and excited as they talk among themselves.
Though he feels some dread inside at the sudden change of tone in his last words, he still decides to follow through with his head held high.
It can't be that bad, right?
