Passing the Assessment

In the Outer Court area

One of the Elders of Outer court, a middle-aged man, can be seen sitting outside the administration building. There are a lot of recruits in front of him. They are here for the Outer Court disciple assessment consisting of first years and who didn't from the previous years.

In addition to them, some Outer Court disciples were looking for some entertainment at the expense of others' losses.

The Elder held a strange stone with a few runes inscribed on it in his hand. This stone determines whether the recruit has reached Novice Realm Level-3 or not.

The Elder stood up and spoke, "Recruits, as you know, this stone in my hand determines whether you become an Outer Court disciple or not. You all know the rules which were clearly printed in the guidebook. Every recruit has three years after arriving at the sect before they clear the assessment and become Outer Court disciple.

If one doesn't, they have to leave the sect. Transport to the capitals and a few important cities is provided for recruits like these. From there, you have to live on by yourself.

Now everyone who is here for the assessment, start approaching me in an orderly fashion."

As instructed, the recruits approached the Elder. When they come, their ID is registered, and their result.

"Pass"

"Fail"

"Fail"

"Fail, for the third time. Make preparations to leave tomorrow."

"Pass"

"Fail"

From the way it is going, no one is sure how many will become disciples of the Outer court.

[A/N: Here, Elder is someone with power, an elder is for an old person.]

At the same time, inside Erik's room

[As I calculate, today is the day of assessment for Outer Court disciples. He is still going through enlightenment. If he doesn't wake up and attend it, he fails and has to leave the sect. He needs to stay here, but I can't disturb him in the middle of enlightenment. Although he has good resources, he isn't strong enough to survive independently.]

Right at that moment, Erik breathed out, slowly opening his eyes. The enlightenment caused a slight change in his view of cultivation.

[Host, it looks like you already had enlightenment, even though you didn't reach 20%; you had only neared 10%, yet you got something most people don't. There is no guarantee that you get enlightened for every 10% increase in your comprehension. I estimate that you most likely will be enlightened five times by the time you fully comprehend the technique.]

Erik wanted to check his stats on comprehension after the enlightenment.

--

Name: Erik

Age: 17

Body physique: Ethereal Divine Body Level-1

Bloodline: Ethereal Divine Monarch (Awakened 0.3%)

Cultivation: Novice Realm Level 3

Cultivation technique: Ethereal Divine Cultivation (Comprehension 13.7%)

Skills: None

Spiritual Source Points: 150/500

*[A/N: Next time stats are displayed, I'll not type in the spiritual points for two reasons. One is that as the realm increases, its base value increases by a lot. Secondly, explaining how many spirit points are required for every attack or defense will only cause more problems as the story proceeds.]

--

Erik didn't know whether to look shocked or surprised as he looked at his stats, and he did something he had never done before; he started to laugh like a maniac.

What shocked him more was the rise in his bloodline awakened status. He has no idea why it increased now.

His cultivation rose by two levels in these last three months, and his comprehension of the technique reached almost 14%. If this continues, he has no doubt that he will reach new heights.

[Host, why are you laughing like a maniac?]

"Did you not see that. My comprehension almost reached 14%, and as an added benefit, bloodline activation status also increased, though it is minute. Still, it is an added bonus."

[Host, it seems you are so happy that you forgot something.]

"I did? What did I forget?"

[The reason you are happy for.]

"I am happy because my cultivation reached the third level."

[Yes, why are you happy at the third level?]

"It is…wait a minute, Is the assessment today?"

[Yes]

"Damn it," Erik cursed inwardly.

He pulled himself up and took off like a mad man.

---

"Next, is there anyone else who would like to take the assessment? This would be the end of the assessment for the year. You have to wait for another year if you want to take another assessment", spoke the Outer Court Elder in a loud voice. This is the same Elder Erik met when he came first to the city.

He asked because though it was not mandatory, most first-years attend since from the color emitted by the stone, one can conclude at what level others are. Some of the second years who didn't reach the third level wouldn't want to embarrass themselves attending in front of everyone.

For third years, one doesn't need to say. If they reach the third level, they attend or most likely await their transport away from the sect.

There was no response for fifteen minutes. "I'll be closing then."

"Wait," a young voice cried out. The Elder looked at where the voice came from. A young boy was running towards the Elder. It is none other than Erik.

When Erik finally reached, he was out of breath.

"Young man, you almost missed it. If you were a minute late, I would have left".

"Sorry, Elder, I was in seclusion cultivating," answered Erik, slightly bowing to the Elder.

"Okay, give me your ID, and then hold the stone. Release your energy into the stone for the stone to determine you."

Erik took out his ID and handed it to the Elder. The Elder registered it and gave the stone to him.

Erik took hold of the stone and sent his spiritual energy into the stone. The runes glowed for a minute, and a green light enveloped him.

"Congrats, boy, you are now an Outer Court disciple. It looks like you failed the previous two times. You are lucky you finally qualified to call yourself an disciple of the sect. Here is your ID. You can come here tomorrow and collect your uniform and room key."

Erik bowed and turned to leave when the Elder's voice stopped him.

"Since you were in seclusion and arrived late, you should know that the Outer Court tournament this year will be in three months."

---

[Host, since your assessment is over before you further cultivate, I have a suggestion. Do you wish to hear it?]

"Why are you asking for permission like that? It's creeping me out."

[Nothing, you may get angry and call me crazy for suggesting that.]

"Why would I do so? Is it crazy?"

[Yes.]

"Then why are you thinking of suggesting it for me?"

[Since it benefits you a lot in the future.]

"Hmm." Erik pondered over a minute before asking, "Okay, tell me what it is that you want me to do."

[I want you to cripple your cultivation, and…]

"Are you crazy?"

[Host, let me finish before you call me crazy.]

"Fine, continue."

[I don't you permanently cripple; you'll restart your cultivation as someone who hasn't reached Novice Realm's first level. Since you are currently an Outer Court disciple, you get a better stay. Also, there is a monthly spirit stone allotment. Any outer court disciple can take a 3-month advance on spirit stones as per the rules. What I want you to do is that you take…]
