The walk to the mansion rejuvenates me a little.

And it also settles my nerves. I still can’t believe that I slapped Maverick. I do worry about the consequences of that later, but is it terrible to think it was a long time coming?

I keep telling myself that I slapped my friend, not my king.

It kinda helps.

Angela remains quiet, walking ahead as I followed her footsteps.

We slipped inside through a back door, carefully avoiding any staff or Soleil…or Maverick’s parents, Goddess forbid.

“Where were you today?” Angela asks as we stand alone in a hallway upstairs.

I frown, rubbing my arm. With a sigh, I realize I’m going to have to spill the beans, eventually. Maverick is going to want answers, too.

One thing at a time.

“I went to see my mom this morning. I haven’t been feeling the best.”
