Chapter 4: A Deal With My Inner Phoenix.
I woke up feeling refreshed and cheery. I gathered everyone like I did every day and we all walked to breakfast. We all had our Katanas strapped to our backs. Now that there were demons we were required to have them with us. I guess since I scared them off yesterday they decided to enroll more demons. There were three more demons two girls and one other guy.
" When did they get here. " I asked Kiri.
" They enrolled last night and arrived this morning. " Kiri said with venom.
The Girls looked over at the boys and giggled. They were like regular girls at least thats what they were trying to convince the other students. I didn't care about their appearances so I didn't need to know their names. I could kill them so easily, I wouldn't have to bat an eyelash. So when I saw her leave with a clueless jock I didn't tell them because they knew what I was doing.
When I got their though the boy was already dead and the girl was nowhere to be found. I stared at the body, it was shredded and his stomach was sliding down the wall, his guts fished out for all to see, his eyes gone, his heart was gone. She hadn't been doing this for survival she was killing for sport. She took only the heart, but not as food, as a trophy. I stood there looking at the body of the poor boy and I cried openly, It was my fault that he was dead if I would have been quicker he'd still be alive right now, he'd still be safe in lunch no worry in the world.
I knew the only way to make it right was by killing the demon who did this so as school let out and night came I went on the hunt. My outfit was very revealing but it was lighter than cloths, cloths would make me too slow, so I wore armor that covered my breast and my private. I had thigh high armored stockings and armored high heeled boots. All the armor was black to blend in with the dark. I had my saber in the sheath still and I ran on the roofs of the buildings. The outfit was perfect for this kind of think because I felt lighter than air and it helped with speed.
After a few hours I smelled her trail, she smelled like rotten eggs. I crouched down on the roof staying down so the wind didn't carry my smell. She wore no glamour now and Her long horns and green skin was slick with some kind of slimy coating. Her eyes were black save for the red glare. Her hair was black as pitch which made her even more hideous the more I looked at her. She was over a girl who had to be at least twelve. I wasn't going to let her take this girls life. I jumped onto her drawing my sword slitting her throat before she had the chance to fight back. Just as I thought, so easy to kill.
The girl screamed as blood prayed onto her face.
" Are you okay? Did it hurt you? " I said handing her my shirt that I had brought incase I needed to wrap someone's wound.
" No. What was that? What are you? " she asked wipping her face of the nasty black oozing blood.
" That was a demon, and I am a demon slayer. A hashira at that. I lead the demon slayers. We are who protect you in the night so this doesn't happen. You may not see us but we are there making sure you are safe. Make sure to stay inside at night okay? " I said leaping back up to the roof's edge.
" What's your name? " She asked.
" The names Nikku. Don't tell anyone about me, the demon, or what happened tonight. Okay? " I said.
" Can I ask why? " she said.
" Becuase if you told them you were attacked by a demon they would either think your lying or if you convinced them they were real you would risk all of tokyo to go into a panic. So keep it to yourself. " I answered.
" I will, Will I see you again? " she asked with hope.
" I hope I don't because that means your safe and alive. Goodbye and keep inside at night. " I ordered.
I ran away but I could hear her scream at me.
" Your my hero! " Her voice managed to carry to me. I smiled and ran back to the school.
As I entered the building they were all waiting and I felt like something was wrong and I sighed.
" Did your hunt go well? " Kurudo asked.
" Yeah, she's dead. " I sighed.
" They know you killed her. " Choseki said.
" Well, shit. I can handle it. I have a feeling something else is going on. " I said.
Tsubasa came forward with 9 file folders all skinny but I knew that it was important, and I grabbed them from him.
" They're coming and they're a lot worse than the other demons already here. They're ten times stronger than the other three. We thought we would let you assess their profiles before they come here. " He said grimmly.
" Thank you, If you don't mind I'll be in the arena. Hey Koibito, can you take these and set them on the desk please. If you want to know about them as well go ahead and review the files okay? " I said.
" No problem. " She said, with a weak smile.
The others left and went to their rooms and I headed to the schools underground arena. The arena lay behind a wall in the school's attic. No one but us hashira and we planned to keep it that way too. The arena was made of black onyx and since we were hashira and we had to keep in shape it was a lot larger than the schools arena. The arena held climbing walls, giant rocks, moving dummies, obstacle courses and more. Directly in the center of the arena was a huge circle.
The circle was ancient and you knew that by looking at the hashira engravings that layed around the circle. When you stepped on it, the basic form of your breathing style lit up. So when I stepped into the center of the circle the fire breathing symbol lit up. It turned red slowly began to fill the circle. When it reached me I burst into flames and I concentrated hard on controlling the inner part of me that was fighting to come out. When I concentrated hard enough a phoenix would materialize in front of me but still inside the circle.
Soon, I was fully concentrated and sure enough the phoenix showed its self in front of me.
" Why must you always wish for complete control over me? " It whispered.
" Because If I let you in full control I will be nothing but a paralyzed body being controlled like a puppet. I won't be able to have my free will. " I hissed.
" Maybe you should stop fighting me, then. " it hissed back.
" Maybe you should stop making me a complete beast! " I yelled.
" I think it's time we make a deal, don't you think? " it bellowed.
" What kind of deal " I said crossing my arms.
" A deal both of us will somewhat agree upon. " It said monotoned.
" What's the deal, then? " I asked.
" You get all control but you will have to let me inside your head so I can see what you see, hear what you hear, know what you know, and I can speak to you in your mind. That way I can keep in touch with you and you don't start being a cry baby and whinning that I was making you a terrible person. " it said with a smug tone.
" I do not whine! I am not a crybaby either!. " I said crossing my arms defiantly.
" Keep telling yourself that." it said.
" So, what will it be, Nikku? Will you make the deal or are you gonna say no like an arrogant child? " it said flatly.
" Fine, its a deal. " I sighed.
" Good, now a reminder saying you understand the items of the deal. It flapped its wings and hot air flew my way and I put my hands up to block the heat. The heat sunk into my body and every inch of me was tingling and my right forearm burned. A few moments after the pain in my forearm faded and I now had flaming red hair and my eyes teared up as a burning sensation consumed my eyes.
" My hair! " I yelled.
" Not just your hair, look in the mirror, Nikku. " it said.
" Maybe later. What did you do to my forearm? " I asked.
" I placed my mark on it to remind you of the deal you and I agreed to. Oh and your eyes are now red of course your eyes will look dark brown to the humans. Unfortunately, your hair will be visible to them still. " It smiled.
" I liked the way I looked! " I yelled angrily.
" I didn't. You looked so mundane, it was hard to look at. " It said indifferently.
" Well, thanks for the constructive criticism. " I said sarcastically.
All of a sudden the phoenix slammed back into me. The suprise made me stumble and land on my ass.
' We are not alone, Nikku. ' it said.
I looked around and sure enough I spun and saw wings peaking from behind the bleachers.
" Hey, you. Why are you here. " I yelled.
It turned and I could see only glowing amber eyes before the figure suddenly vanished in thin air.
' We have been compromised human! ' it hissed.
