Cassandra sat watching her monitor screen showing data for research that Max had recently worked on. She chuckled softly and then immediately called Max. "You still can't increase the abilities of those serums? Even though I was kind enough to take over your undercover job," Cassandra said as soon as Max answered the phone.

"Excuse me, may I call you Cass at this time?" Max said.

"Go ahead, if that makes it easier for you to explain your failure," Cassandra said.

"All right, Cass." Max took a deep breath. "First, I won't blame anyone because I haven't succeeded in duplicating Professor Graff's serum. But I can tell you that the data on Lily's computer isn't much help. Those are Lily's research data—"

Cassandra suddenly interrupted Max's words. "Didn't Lily ever get a sample from Professor Graff?"

"It's just a bat sample, Cass," Max said.

"Are you sure?" said Cassandra.
