Chapter 444: Anyone else
"More than care Lia..." said Pete as he looked at her and smiled.
"I'm going to be honest with you, because I think you deserve to know" said Pete.
"I was in love with Natasha... for such a long time" said Pete, he was serious with Lia, and he did not want to hurt her in any way, he felt like she deserved to know everything about him.
"I'm sorry if that makes you feel somehow" said Pete.
"No Peter, it's fine...it's understandable... Natasha has that effect on... well... everyone..." said Lia as she smiled.
"She truly is someone wonderful and admirable, I didn't fall in love with her at first, but sometime deeper into our friendship I just kind of did, and I didn't even notice for a long time" said Pete.
"Let me be honest with you Lia, the reason I didn't date anyone for the past five years was because I was deeply in love with her" said Pete.
"And did she know?" asked Lia.
"Well when I finally had the courage to tell her how I really felt, she told me that she had suspected it, but she had never really been sure" said Pete.
"And how did she take it when you told her?" asked Lia.
"She told me that she unfortunately did not feel the same, she said that she didn't want to ruin the kind of friendship we had just because of love" said Pete.
"She said that she had been through that before, and she never wants to go through it again, she prefers me closer as a friend more than anything else" said Pete as Lia smiled.
"You two really talk like friends" said Lia as she smiled.
"Oh we do, that's why I love talking to her so much, Natasha always knows just what to say, even when you're feeling down, and most of all, she's always completely honest with you, no matter what" said Pete as he smiled and Lia felt a sting in her heart, as if his words were directed at her.
"And... and do you still love her?" asked Lia carefully as Pete looked at her.
"Of course I love her, but not in the way you think, she will always be my friend always, no one can stop us from being friends" said Pete.
"I loved her once, but I love you now, and I want what we have to work, no matter what" said Pete as he caressed the right side of her face as Lia smiled.
"I don't know how to explain it, but I can't imagine how I've lived without you in my life, I truly admire you, you try so hard to make everyone happy, Natasha has told me many good things about you, and I am starting to see why she trusts you so much for myself" said Pete as Lia felt another blow to her heart.
"Peter... I'm not perfect..." said Lia, her heart heavy, here he was declaring his love for her, telling her how much he cared about her, he held her in such high regard, and yet, she was nothing but a liar, she was hiding many things from him.
"I know, but you're perfect for me" said Pete as he smiled and Lia felt her heart melt, how would she not when he was so sweet?
He trusted her so much, and she felt as if she could tell him anything.
"And I'm not flattering you, I am telling you the truth, that's how I feel, I'm with you now, because I want to be, and not because of anyone else" said Pete as he smiled and Lia held his hand.
"Thank you for telling me the truth..." said Lia as she smiled and Pete smiled at her as they entered back into a comfortable silence until Lia spoke up.
"I was also in love with someone for such a long time that I was unable to love someone else" said Lia softly as Pete looked at her.
"It's okay Lia, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to" said Pete gently.
"No... I want to tell you... you deserve to know, you've told me everything about you, and you know nothing about me..." said Lia.
"I want you to tell me because you want to, and not because you feel obliged to" said Pete as he smiled.
"I want to tell you because I do..." said Lia as she didn't want to feel the way she was feeling any longer.
"I was in love with Dom... in fact, I've been in love with him since childhood" said Lia as she looked at Pete.
"We grew up together, he used to take care of me, treat me well, treat me nice, I've always had a crush on him, and as I grew older, it turned into something deeper, and then I realized I loved him" said Lia as Pete looked at her and just listened.
"He was always my defender, someone I could lean on, who was always on my side no matter what..." said Lia as she smiled.
"I wanted to be his wife, the esteemed Mrs. White, that's why whenever anyone approached me, I would turn them down, because, I always had him in my heart..." said Lia as she looked at Pete, her eyes telling him to say something.
"Does Natasha know?" asked Pete as Lia shook her head.
"Well when we were younger, she knew that I had a crush on him, but we always laughed it off, I never told her that I loved him... in fact I never told anyone... the only person I told was Dom... but it was too late" said Lia sadly.
"I left to go abroad to further my studies, and before I knew it, news of Dom and Natasha getting married spread, I tried to convince the both of them that they were making a mistake, that they were rushing into this, I knew that they didn't love each other, but still they got married anyway" said Lia.
"It broke my heart a million times... the man I loved was gone, married to someone else... who happened to be my very good friend, in fact my best friend to be honest... there was no one I trusted more than Natasha, we grew up closely together, almost like sisters" said Lia as she smiled and Pete smiled.
"I was happy that they were happy together... really... but I just couldn't take it I was... distraught..." said Lia as Pete held her hand and she looked down at him.
"You care so much for your friends Lia, I know how hard it is to put your feelings aside so that the people you love will be happy, another thing I love about you, is your honesty" said Pete as he smiled softly at her and Lia looked at him.
"No, don't say that Peter, you don't know me, I'm not like that at all" said Lia as she shook her head.
"I'm not half as good as you put me up to be, I've done terrible things... horrible things" said Lia.
"Haven't we all in one way or the other?" asked Pete as Lia shook her head.
"No, you don't understand... I'm not a saint, I'm not perfect, I'm not caring, I'm not honest, I'm a hypocrite" said Lia as tears started to drop from her eyes, there was just something about how he believed in her so much that made her feel like scum, like she was a pretender, which she was.
"Hey, don't cry, and don't say such horrible things about yourself..." said Pete as he wiped away her tears.
"I say them because they are true Peter, I told you, you don't know me" said Lia as she cried.
"Then let me know you" said Peter as Lia cried even more and sniffed as he continued wiping away her tears.
"Peter, I love you... I really do, no one had believed in me, or loved me the way you do..." said Lia as she sniffed and she held his hands in hers.
"And I want to tell you everything, I want to tell you the truth... I want to confess, really but..." said Lia.
"But what?" asked Peter.
"But I'm afraid you will hate me, that you will look at me differently, that you won't understand..." said Lia as she sniffed and Pete shook his head and wiped the residue of her tears.
"Please promise me... promise me that you won't hate me Pete, that you won't look at me differently..." said Lia.
"I won't Lia, I promise you... please believe that you can trust me, I would never do anything to hurt you, and if you don't want to tell me, it's alright, I understand" said Pete honestly as Lia smiled softly at him, he was truly the sweetest, she hoped he would still be when she told him the truth.
"Thank you Peter... thank you so much" said Lia as she smiled and she sniffed, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes to get a hold of herself before she felt like she was losing her mind.
"I... I... I need a moment please..." said Lia as she took more deep breaths and Pete nodded, waiting patiently for her to be ready to tell him whatever she wanted to tell him.
