Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Kittens Made it Worse

The flowers didn’t go over as well as Sean hoped. Isaac took the bundle of sunflowers with a quiet thanks and tossed them on the table.

He’d always made sure to put flowers in water, before, and had been careful with the delicate petals.

Sean shared a look with Beck, who sat on the couch looking as disappointed as Sean felt. They’d been Beck’s idea.

“Isaac lives for that cheesy romance junk. Flowers, chocolates, dumb stuffed bears…he melts over that stuff,” Beck had said after they’d called a truce.

Sean remembered how Isaac reacted to the flowers he used to bring to the bookstore all the time. Even after running out of vases at home, Isaac had used his cups and water bottles to keep every flower alive. His apartment had looked like a florist shop the first time Sean was here.

He wondered when Isaac had thrown all the flowers out. Had they survived the night Sean was kicked out? Did they last a few days?

“Ready?” Isaac prompted, standing in front of the door.
