Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Zoe's Truth & Dylan's Offer

“I already knew Zoe,” Dylan said, getting up from his lawn chair and heading into the bar area to fix himself a drink.

Zoe watched him walk away, his dark hair slicked back. She was in shock. How could he have known, unless he had something to do with the bonus, to begin with?

Knowing that this conversation required more discussion, she also pushed herself up from her lawn chair and made her way inside.

As she stepped through the glass doors, she saw him mixing a rum and coke.

“How could you have known about my signing bonus?” Zoe inquired, as she stood at the kitchen island, watching him at the bar across the way.

He didn’t turn around to face her. Instead, Zoe saw him grab a lime.

“Margaret,” Dylan said.

Of course. Margaret. She told Dylan. She would do just about anything to keep them apart or to find a way to have them argue about something.

“When did she tell you?” Zoe asked, stepping closer to Dylan.
