Chapter 283: Understanding (2/2)

"What did you just say?" Wren's voice was a dark rumble in the empty space carved out by Mallin's words.

Mallin glanced at him then clutched at Lysander's hands. Lysander blinked down at the physical contact that his brother gave so freely after years of ignoring him.

"When you came to see me, you told me that you knew Ciprian had done something with Sacha's body." Mallin's words came out in a barely coherent jumble of sentences. "You said our brother still needed us…but I pretended not to hear you. I pretended because it hurt too much, but I already knew. I already knew. He told me he would give me something…and I was weak."

The pain that poured out of Mallin wasn't magic or poison, but it was an energy of its own. Rowan felt it like a blow to the chest.

He would have thought Mallin was on the brink of hysteria again if he didn't look so damn tired.
