Chapter 236: The aftermath

"It can't be.'' I shake my head in disbelief. 

Lowell is watching me, and I see something flicker in his eyes. He has been through something, and it has changed him. This was a war; he killed a lot of people, so I don't even expect him to be the same. 

"I couldn't save him, I couldn't save her,' he tells me and all I see is remorse. 

This is not the way he wanted this to end. He wanted to protect everyone and now Roman ended up being collateral damage. I thought he would come out of this stronger. I didn't want this for Tala. 

How is she supposed to move on from this? 

I can't even imagine a life where she actually does. 

I know that I need to be there for her. I need to be her strength when she has none. I need to be the one to help her through this because I love her. I will never be able to replace Roman in her life, but I can try to be the best support system for her.
