Someone who was not in the know of the actual situation would have assumed Ge Kai to be some righteous hero; after all they were often outnumbered and were courageous enough to face huge numbers all by their lonesome.

In reality, Ge Kai would never have come alone to oppose the World-serpent. Firstly, he was an assassin who specialized in dealing with individual targets and secondly because he was not confident enough in controlling the situation that was sure to escalate into a war between the factions once he demanded an answer from the World-Serpent.

As such, Ge Kai had hidden a bunch of subordinates who were especially skilled in the art of assassination in order to strike back in case the situation worsened. From the looks on the faces of the opposing faction, he had been right to do so. All of them looked battle ready and raring to fight.
