Chapter 49: Time jump (part 5)

It's dawn and the trucks still haven't left, the situation was in progress, the longer they take, the more I get restless.
While I was lost in thought, the radio, which until then had not given the slightest signal all night, rang.
"This is the base, reporting to Captain Bell, confirm?" says the voice on the radio.
"This is Captain Bell, I'm listening!"
"Positive. Captain Bell Major Blazer will be with you on the line!"
"Captain Bell, this is Major Blazer, we received satellite images that among the weapons shipments there are a large number of explosives! You need to organize your target extraction unit immediately, I will send reinforcements from the base to coordinate with you! Understood?"
"Yes. Major Blazer, why are the Parameters of this mission all mixed up? Have you heard from the mole?" My instincts alarmed me the moment he said explosives, so I couldn't help but ask, after all, something about this mole didn't smell right to me.
"No! according to HQ, our man's tracks have disappeared, we suspect he was discovered and killed!" says Blazer regretfully.
I already suspected that something wasn't right, now with those words from Blazer, something isn't right. "Did they kill the mole? If he was discovered, something isn't right!"
"Yeah, something's not right, you're questioning me all the time and you still haven't prepared for the operation! Go fast!" After those words, Blazer turned off the radio.
Surely something is wrong, I just don't know what it is, I hope no one dies today. "Very well team, the order has already been given, in 1-hour reinforcements will be arriving, they will draw attention through the front gate, and we will invade the city through the back gate and capture the target! Our escape route is the same entry point! Questions? No? So get ready!"
In half an hour the reinforcements arrived, they were a unit of 100 men, I called them unit two for this mission.
We were already prepared and proceeded as planned, unit two went in the front while we went in the back, five minutes later.
After five minutes, we went to the back of the city, from afar we could already hear the noises of the conflict, our soldiers caused some damage, the back of the city was almost without security.

After killing the guards I say." Very well unit, the guards are already dead, our target is the center of the city, I hope you are quick. The unit will split into three as usual! Nez you and your partners go north, Isaac you take the center, Frankie you and your unit come with me south! Ready, go! Go! Go!
"Understood!" says Isaac
"Yes," Nez replies without even looking at my face.
"Fine," says Frankie with a face that wants an explanation.
"Frankie! I have a bad feeling! This mission was really weird from the start. I feel like something big is going to happen!" I speak as I kill the terrorists that are on their way.
Frankie further back, covering me, answers. "What happened, why do you think that?"
"I don't know, it's my instincts, since we set foot in Afghanistan I've had a feeling of death, it feels like death is on my neck, the last time I felt like this was when we did the mission to track the shipment of weapons three years ago. Years old!"
"What should we do, are we going to abandon the mission?" asks Frankie seriously.
"I don't know, I..." My words were interrupted by the voice in my earpiece.
"Captain, we arrived at the house, it's quiet inside, should we go in?" asks Isaac.
"Wait Isaac, something is wrong, why would the Al Qaeda leader be here if the infiltrator was captured? Logically, he should have shut down all activities in this area! It's a trap!!! Get out of there Isaac! ALL UNITS! REMOVE UP!! WITHDRAWAL!!!" A few seconds after my words, six explosions sounded at two-second intervals throughout the city.

The buildings collapsed, the whole city was on fire, my ears were in chaos, and everything was spinning, I stayed in this situation for a few seconds, then I yelled into the radio, to see how everyone is doing.
"Someone on the line! pick up! Nez, Isaac? pick up, what's the situation?" I look around and all I see is fire and concrete.
"Alex! Where are you?" I hear Frankie scream.
I go to the screaming place and I see Frankie, with her foot stuck in the concrete, it looks like a building has fallen near her and the debris hit her, I helped to remove the rubble but it looks like she won't be able to walk without help.
Isaac also gave news on the radio, it seems he is fine, but his two companions, Leo and Marcos, have died.
Nez didn't give any news, I hope nothing bad happens to her.
A few hours later everyone was gathered, Nez before the explosion retreated because of a suicide bomber, his men died and his radio was damaged.
Sure enough, my instincts were right, this mission was very wrong, with these thoughts in mind, I called Major Blazer. "Major Blazer, it was a trap, as soon as my men entered the city, the terrorists blew up everything, someone turned us in! And lives were lost. I want to know, who is the mole?"
"That's confidential boy, I'm not allowed to give you that information!" Major Blazer was adamant.
"Major, if you can't tell me who the infiltrator is who passed on this unreliable information, I'll assume you are responsible for the lives of the men and women who died here today!" I push the bar.
"Sorry son, but I can't break the rules, you won't know this information from me!"
"Alright, then pass it on to the superiors, I'll ask directly!" I say with fury.
"Sorry kid, HQ said the mission was a failure and we should go back," says Blazer gently.
"Major Blazer, no John, as of today I am no longer part of this unit or the US Army, wait for my casualty report when I get to HQ!" when I finish my words, I turn off the radio.
