Mahina was preoccupied going through the internet searching for the CEO of Elites Daily Health Media company. While she was also listening to the music player playing her favorite song. She got distracted when her phone Buzzed. She picked it up swiftly from beside her and answered without looking at the details;
"Hello! Miss Mahina here!" her voice was sonorous to the caller and she was slightly smiling when she answered the call.
"Hey Mahina it's Finn..." on hearing the voice of the caller her smile turned upside down. Mahina was brewing with anger inwardly at the sound of Finn's voice as it brought back dark memories. Memories of the two of them being together flooded her mind, somewhere along her line of thoughts she remembered her mother and how terrible she must have felt when her father cheated on her. She might not have understood the feeling when she was young but she definitely did after Finn crashed her world.
"What do you want?" she asked him out rightly without wasting time.
"Finn?... How dare you call my line? what do you want from me?" she was obviously annoyed from the sound of her voice. She made a fist as she tried to keep her emotions in check.
"I am sorry Mahina! I am sorry! I am so sorry" listening to how sad she was from her voice he apologized frantically.
"What are you sorry for exactly?" Her voice was wobbly, she was about to cry, but was doing her best to keep all her emotions in check. She wiped the tears that fell silently from her eyes as she listened.
"For everything... for letting you down..." His voice was croaky, he cleared his throat and coughed. He sounded somehow sickly, Mahina could tell.
"I don't care... that was all in the past...What do you want from me?" she asked him again.
"I need to tell you something important" he answered her.
"What is it" She asked, her voice was dead, devoid of any kind of emotion.
"I can't tell you over the phone" He explained further. "We need to meet" the phone fell silent for a while before he answered; "It's really important"
"What do you mean, meet? When I don't want to ever see your face again." She replied him honestly without hesitating.
"I am dying!" the phone went off and she received a message. She opened it angrily and saw that it was from Fin;
'Mahina! I just wish you would give me an opportunity to talk to you before it's too late. My memories of you are what keeps me going. The plush sword fish, you gifted me on my birthday, the antic ring we got for each other, the painting you made of me and the word puzzles. They are all that helps me sleep at night. Nobody is perfect and I am certainly not. Even if you don't love me any more... please let me see you one more time."
Mahina was full of emotion, she couldn't contain it any more. Out of anger she smashed her phoned against the wall.
"The nerve of the fucker to dial my line... who cares if he is death. Is it because he is about to die that he is full of remorse for all his foolishness. I don't give a damn about what happens to him... he can go to hell for all I care" she regretfully packed pieces of her scattered phone from the floor. She stared at her once good phone one last time before putting it away in a plastic disposable bag. She picked up an old android phone from her locker and fixed her sim-card inside. She murmured to herself as she strides back to her bed;
"The nerve of the fucker. After all the heart ache, the humiliation... fucker!"
Dora had just arrived home, when Mahina was having a phone call with Finn and she overheard their conversation and Mahina's reaction after wards. She was happy at her friends befitting reply to the fucker. She never knew that her friend had it in her to be that expressive, so she felt impressed by Mahina's new found courage. She was so happy with Mahina that she rushed out of the house to go buy drinks for them to celebrate. Although she was a bit concerned about the aggressive part of Mahina destroying her phone. It was unlike Mahina, but that was what made her happy that her friend for once left her comfort zone, to stand up for herself.
Mahina was still going through the internet to find a picture of the CEO of Elites Daily Health Media Company, which she was finding it impossible, since there was little to no information about him online. While she sat in a yogi posture on her bed looking blank, Dora entered the room with two bottles of sake wine. Mahina was suddenly excited at the sight of her friend's hands. She jumped down from the bed and took the glasses from her hands and sat on the floor excitedly. Looking up at Dora, she asked;
"What is the occasion? What are we celebrating?" her voice was fruity and she had a cute smile painted on her face
"Do I need a reason to celebrate with my friend?" Dora was feeling smug as she answered Mahina. She opened the wine and poured it into their glasses.
"No! no, it's just unlike you to buy drinks for us without a reason" Mahina explained sounding a bit confused by the gesture.
"Ha ha! Ha!" Dora giggled hysterically before she answered; "well you are right... I am excited because you stood up to that fucker Finn. I am so proud of you... so, I just had to go buy this so we can celebrate" Dora explained as they clink their glasses together in cheers.
"He wants me to meet up with him because apparently something happened to him and he is dying" she explained blankly to Dora. Dora noticed her blank words and realized that something must have come over her friend. Mahina was the kind of girl to see a person, who once pointed a gun at her head in trouble and still want to help them. So, Dora was really confused by her sudden cold behavior. Although she was happy earlier, she is now a bit worried for her friend.
"Are you going?" Dora prodded Mahina further, in a crafty way to get her real feeling out
"Nah, not in this life, not ever." She sounded determined
"That's good. Let him die with his crushed conscience for all you care" Dora gulped down her whisky in one gulp. Her eyes were fixated on Mahina searching for her feelings, but she couldn't make out any sort of emotion from her.
"Forget about it... let's talk about something worthwhile" Mahina changed the topic. Nothing about her ex-boyfriend excited her anymore. He is nothing but a thorn in her sight. She had enough of people stepping all over her, she wasn't going to allow that anymore. It's said that before a knife is sharped, it takes a lot of hammering, and Mahina has taken enough of hers to be sharp enough. She gulped down the content of her glass in one go.
"Yeah! Uhm about your interview how is it coming up" Dora moved with the flow after realizing Mahina's lack of interest in talking about Finn.
"Can't find the man anywhere on NET, it's frustrating. It's like he is some sort of alien, or something... I don't know!" she answered smiling. They both chuckled together.
"Alright don't worry, I think I might be able to help." Dora collected her laptop and started working on it, searching the NET for the CEO. Mahina folded her hands under her chin and studied Dora thoughtfully. The girl is blessed with Talent and intelligence. She is good at almost everything, must especially computers. Mahina wondered why Dora is not interested in getting a proper job. While they were at it, Mahina's phone suddenly rang. She picked the call and answered, while she spoke to the person her facial expression lite up. She looked cheerful. Dora became cautious. Mahina got up suddenly from the ground and said;
"Dora I have to go somewhere, please don't wait up for me, I might be late." She took off her clothes and changed into something casual. She wore a bum short and a dress shirt over her crop top with a simple sneaker shoes to match and rushed out of the building. Dora wagged her head and murmured;
"Just when I thought we were making progress... she dashes my hope to the pigs to trample on."

In the Fords Clan hotel, one of the biggest hotels and most expensive in town, Finn and some of his friends were gathered for a cocktail party. The chairs were arranged in cocktail style. The hall was sophisticated, it had shiny chandeliers hanging down from the ceilings and the walls were made in French style. The floors were extra shiny that the reflections of the light could be seen on them clearly. The hall was booming with classical music and small chit-chats of sophisticated people.
Finn was standing together with Ava and Emma around a round cocktail table, giggling and chit-chatting. When Darla entered the hall. She was dressed in a silver tail gown with a thigh slit, she was wearing heels and her hair was packed in a loose bun. Her make-up was light, it accentuated her already beautiful face. Finn couldn't get his eyes off her. 'Today was the day he gets Darla, if it was the last thing he did.' He had been courting her for a long time, with no progress. Every time he thinks she likes him, it was always the opposite. So he decided to look for help from Ava and Emma this time around. Since they were friends. She waved at Ava and Emma cheerfully as they were her friends. They gestured for her to come to where they were standing. Smiling she walked hurriedly to meet up with them.
Back when they were all in the university, almost all the girls were jealous of Mahina's poise and beauty. Being the heiress of her uncle's company Lourdes fashion world and the face of his company, she was very popular and had many admirers. Darla was one of those girls who envied Mahina back in the days. She did all she could to make her life difficult back in school. When Mahina and Finn were dating, she loved Finn, and she did all she could within her power to come in between them. While staging as Mahina's friend. Despite her popularity Mahina was only known as Finn's girlfriend, although other capable and handsome men had approached her severally. She rejected all their advances and stuck to her boyfriend Finn. He was her world and she loved him whole heartedly.
Mahina arrived at Fords clan hotel in a taxi. She hurried to the door and introduced herself to the door man, she told him who she was having an acquaintance with first, before she was allowed to enter. When Mahina entered she was taken aback with the beauty of the hotel. She remembered what life use be like for her before, but soon enough those thought shattered as she remembered what brought her there in the first place. She looked around and saw a hall way, she followed it but somehow winded up in the parking lot. Realizing, she was in the wrong place, she turned to leave, when she heard the voices of a man talking and a woman crying', she followed the sound by taking silent steps to where it was coming from. Then she saw the duo engaged in a conversation;
"Mr. Alba I really love you!!!" a woman's shrill voice echoed in the brightly lit parking lot. Mahina's heart dropped in fear. She covered her mouth with both her hands, and wagged her head.
"What did you say?" Alba asked nonchalantly. His voice was devoid of any form of emotion.
"I love you Alba, ... I tried! I told my heart not to love you, but I didn't even know when I fell in love with you" the lady was emotional and her voice sounded brittle. Mahina's heart tightened as she waited for the man's response it felt to her like she was watching a film opera;
"I told you before, I don't do love but only friends with benefit and also that the moment you start catching feelings, our friendship will be over." The man's voice was blank. Mahina was frightened by him. she looked at the lady pitifully. 'fuck men they are losers, don't worry... he is not worthy of you' she murmured under her voice. The brittle voice spoke again';
"I know... but... you can't tell your heart who to love right?" the lady persisted, Mahina turned to look at him hoping he will accept the lady, who was obviously head over heels for him but his response shocked her.
"Is that all you wanted" Mahina gasped in disbelieve. Then she noticed the lady's face very well and realized that it was Helen Garcia. The famous model of Glitz shoes and Bags. She was surprised. 'Even successful ladies like Helen Garcia gets dumped...I shouldn't feel bad then, that I got dumped because my family's business shattered. I am sorry... but I feel consoled... I know it's wrong for me to feel better at another's misfortune but... I am sorry' she thought to herself
"Men! escort Helen back to her condo unit." Some men dressed in black suit came out of a Mercedes Benz and lead Helen to the car. She was crying as she followed the men to the car.
"If you treasure your career you won't talk to me about love again Miss Helen... and I don't ever want to see you again" Alba warned Helen. Mahina was disappointed at Helen. How could she have allowed a 'no good' like that man to treat her that way. She was a model for goodness sake. One of the must well paid and famous model for that matter. Mahina gasped in frustration and turned to leave.
Helen got into the car sadly and she was driven away. Mahina made her silent signature move to exit the parking lot when she heard the Menacing voice again';
"Hey! You! Come out of there, right now!" The blank voice commanded with so much authority. Mahina's legs grew cold. She trembled. Her cheeks felt warm. 'Did I just get caught eavesdropping? Fuck! Am I a child?' She suddenly had a rush of adrenaline and she ran out of the Parking lot as fast as she could, without turning back. Alba smiled at her reaction. After Mahina left there, she decided to ask for directions, she wasn't going to allow herself get caught in a situation like that twice.
She asked one of the workers for directions and she was directed to her destination. Mahina could hear the soft music from the entrance of the hall. She was happy as she approached there. She was finally going to meet Darla. They became friends at their final year in the university. After graduation Darla moved to Florida, so they were not able to keep in touch, until Mahina got a message from her earlier saying';
"Hey dear it's Darla. I am in town, let's meet up girl. I have a lot of goss for you." She was so excited as she entered, but as she lifted her eyes to look around, she saw Finn kneeling down on one leg asking Darla to be his wife. She was confused by the whole scene. 'Didn't the fucker say he was dying? Or was I imaging things' realizing what was going on she wagged her head sadly. Life is really like the four seasons spring, summer, fall and winter. This has to be the winter of my life.
As her presence became noticeable everyone's eyes got fixated on her and the spot-light was positioned on her. It was as if the whole charade was put up just to see her reaction and for them to mock her misery. 'What will it profit them to see me down?' She thought to herself.
Mahina didn't even know she had any more tears left, until she felt something warm trailing down her cheeks. She wiped it with her fingers and laughed. Everyone was looking at her like she was a clown or something, they all thought she had gone crazy out of heart break. They were wallowing in her misery. The crowd of people there were made up of people she knew, her past colleagues in school. She swallowed hard at her present dilemma as she walked backwards.
Mahina turned and ran away from there hurriedly. Ava, Emma, Finn and Darla followed her, together with some of the crowd. They were all looking at her and laughing at her misery. Her eyes were teary, but she was still smiling. She promised herself not to allow anyone feed on her pain again. As she was about to exit the hall, she bombed into something that felt like a strong wall. No! It wasn't a wall but a chest, she realized. She looked directly at it, it was strong and dependable. She raised her eyes gradually to see it was the doctor who treated her in Elites Health center:
"Doctor!" She looked at him with teary eyes.
