Chapter 49: Reborn

Ray was surrounded by darkness. His body was the only thing he could see clearly. He looked down at his feet and saw that he was standing on what looked like black ink. His heart began to beat faster as he questioned why he wasn't sinking into the mysterious liquid. He cautiously took one step forward which caused ripples to appear around his foot. But surprisingly, it felt almost exactly like solid ground.

Ray took a few more careful steps before he became confident to start walking without fear. Having no particular destination in his view, he set off in a random direction. He looked around as he ventured into the darkness but found nothing else there. As far as he could see, it was nothing but plain, cold, unsettling emptiness.

Ray walked on and on for what seemed like an hour. He stopped and turned slowly in a circle. Still nothing. Almost as if he wasn't getting anywhere at all.
