Chapter 8: Cutie!
"Hey Lory. I haven't seen or heard from you all day. Are you alright?"
Valerie had grown increasingly worried for the first time in forever her sister was missing lunch. It was at least clear that she hadn't left her room all day but that made it even more worrying.
"Okay Lory if you don't open this door now I am coming in!"
After a few moments of milling about Valerie stomped her foot before grabbing the spare key to make her way into the den of the beast. As the door creaked open the gentle warm lights of the afternoon began to fill the darkened room.
Mallory was curled up on her bed letter in hand. Valerie at the very least knew she was alive or at least some sort of zombie from the shallow breaths that filled Mallory's lungs. Without a second thought Valerie happily plopped down next to her sister before gently wrapping her arms around Mallory's husk.
"So what's wrong?"
To which Mallory's reply was handing over the note that has been in her grasp since she found out about it. Taking some time to read it over Valerie couldn't help but feel delight for her sister.
"Oh this is amazing! This is amazing right Lory?"
Valerie however was met with silence.
"Lory if you don't stop being a grumple and answer me I am going to drag you out to this event myself."
"Val, I don't think this is a good idea."
"Lory tell your stupid lizard brain to shut up! Lory, I have seen the way you talk about her. I have seen the glint in your eye as you go on and on about this girl. Do you realize you have never done this about anyone else? Okay at least anyone other than me."
"Huh? I just complain and rant about her cause she is so gosh darn annoying."
"No, despite what you are saying this is certainly out of the ordinary for you. Usually you just forget people you don't like."
"I do not!"
"Do you even remember the name of that guy who bugged you all through high school to go on a date with him despite you slapping him in the hallway every single time?"
"Who?"
"Exactly! So you are going to shower because you are all sniffly and gross then you are going to take that bum of yours all the way to the store."
"Val are you sure?"
"Take some sisterly advice and stop being a dragon and go be a prince for once."
"Only this once but after this I make no promises. Furthermore if this comes falling down in a burning mess you owe me something very yummy!"
"Sure thing Lory~"
Valerie couldn't help but smile as her sister with renewed vigor climbed out of her den of comfort and slowly gathered herself together. Eventually a clean and beautified Mallory stepped out in her usual attire clearly excited despite trying her best to hide it.
Mallory eventually rushed out the door and into the Blossoming Beauty which was rather quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Following Stella's instructions Mallory gave the clerk the necessary details and was eventually shown to the changing room.
Fully dressed in her new formal attire Mallory couldn't stop the pride swelling up in her. The navy blue suit fit perfectly and was so very comfy! Everything from the accents of sapphire to the comfortable shoes just screamed Mallory. Part of Mallory thought it creepy that Stella had read her so but the part she kept hidden deep down found it endearing that the girl had taken the time to learn a bit about who she truly was even through the mask.
With her acquired newly princely attire Mallory texted Stella as she stepped out of the changing room and onto the main floor of the Blossoming Beauty. However as the message was sent a gentle beep could be heard directly in front of her.
Standing at the door with a gentle smile was Stella dressed in the long flowing blue dress she had initially chosen for Mallory but tailored and fitted to her body. The fitted bodice held firmly in place with straps that extended to the waist before widening at the hem made the already enticing Stella shine like a star on a clear night.
"Seems my hopes and dreams were answered on this day."
Mallory just stood motionless as her eyes fell upon Stella.
"Oh~ Seems I managed to take your breath away as well."
Snapping back into reality Mallory just nervously shuffled up to Stella before intertwining her fingers in theirs.
"Come on, we don't want to be late."
"No we don't."
Stella couldn't help but giggle into their connected hands as she led out towards the car parked in front of the store. Now safely inside the vehicle Stella looked over to the nervous Mallory with a devious smile before taking a deep breath and sitting up straight.
"First off Mallory before we continue I need to make sure you know the consequences of your current action. You do realize if you actually go through with this your life is possibly going to be altered for the better or worse depending on who you ask."
"What are you referring to?"
"Well the moment you start dating the heir to a renowned company like mine then people are going to talk. Mallory you would no longer be able to hide in the shadows so long as you are stuck with me."
"I understand."
"Secondly, do you share my feelings?" ask Stella in her normal business woman monotone but it was clear to see the gentle red blush spreading across her cheek.
"Honestly no clue but I am willing to at least put on an act for all to see."
"I see. Well then Mallory are you ready for the next step?"
"As ready as I will ever be I guess."
"That is what I like to hear."
With that final exclamation the space was soon flooded by awkward silence as the pair looked out the window unsure how to proceed. Relief was happily scrawled across both of their faces though as they planned to take this next step together.
