Chapter 17: Spend the day!
"Alec, you are looking better, have you finally slept?" Though the event of the last night was rather unfortunate she knew that her son was not at fault.
She had decided that she would talk to her husband once her son left for school today. She would make sure that he would not suffer anymore.
Alec raised his head and looked at himself into the mirror. He did not seem to find any difference.
"I closed my eyes for a while!" since he knew that he had gotten rid of the beast, no one would be able to attack him on the other side.
He would be free for a few days, until…
"Shall i make something special for you today or would you like to have some money and go eat in the canteen?" Sandra picked up his books and packed them into his bags when she found him lost in his thoughts.
Had she made a mistake while pointing out the changes in him as he looked gloomy again.
"Muffins!"
"Yes, dear?"
"Give me money, I will have lunch in the canteen!" he replied with a blank voice and hollow eyes still a bright smile formed on the face of Sandra.
It has been ages since he had replied to her or asked for anything. He mostly just avoids her like she was a plague.
But she could not blame him since she felt fear whenever she looked into his eyes even when she knew that he could sense it.
She walked towards the kitchen counter where her purse was lying, and took out all the notes it had. Though she knew it was too much for a kid, she didn't care as it was rare that he had asked her for something.
She knew that he did not have many friends or any bad habit to waste money except those strange books.
"Here, keep it. Buy everything you want to eat and if you want later we can go shopping and buy some decent clothes for you!" she added, as she continued to look at the money and his hands but did not dare to raise her head and look into his eyes.
"No need!" Even if he wanted to go shopping, he would go with Jenny. She is the only one who was not scared of him and cared for him genuinely.
He did not spare another glance to his mother who was trying to compensate for the last night beatings.
He had already suffered enough to have any sympathy left for her or to forgive her! If she wanted, she could have stopped it long ago.
Taking his bag, he walked towards the bus stop with anticipation for the first time.
His eyes were searching for the bus which should have arrived a few minutes ago and a frown formed on his face. He was only gone when his eyes fell on the girl who was sitting on the window seat when the bus came a few minutes later.
"Alec, here!" the girl waved her hands as if she was afraid that he would not notice her and Alec's grip on the bag tightened.
He nodded back and the girl beamed as he took slow steps towards the bus and entered in without even waiting for the bus to stop.
They all looked at him with shock as the bus was moving with full speed, it was not even slow as the roads have less traffic.
Without caring about them, he walked towards her under the scrutiny of everyone.
Though shocked, Jenny came out of her daze soon, she did not want to irritate him as she knew how much he hated when everyone stared at her like he was strange.
But she still felt that it was a dangerous act!
"Alec! You could have been injured! Why did you do that?" There was a hint of concern and worry in her voice that Alec did not feel offensive even when she scolded him.
"That was a risky act! Promise me that you would not do it again!" she added in a stern voice when she saw that he was not only feeling regret but even laughing like silly!
"Mmm, I promise!" he nodded his head and sat beside her with the same blank voice but traces of warmth could be seen in his eyes.
"Oh Alec! This is not how we do promises! You have to do it like this!" she forwarded her pinky finger in front of him and he blinked.
She shook her head with a sigh, "you do not know anything, let me teach you. Here!" she held his hand and brought his pinky finger closer to hers until they touched each other.
"See, now say! I will not do it, pinky promise!" she looked at him with her doe like eager eyes that a lump formed on his throat.
His Adam apple bobbed up and down as he continued to look at her hands that were holding his and the fingers that were entwined with each other.
"Mmm. pinky promise!" the voice came out rather hoarse., but still the girl looked finally satisfied and let his hands go which only created a frown on his face. He looked at their hands and had the deep desire to hold her soft and supple hands again.
"So, are we going to have lunch together again!" She did not know what else to talk about as she knew nothing about books.
That was why she did not have many friends. Though Alec was different, he did not care about it and supported her, she did not want to look foolish in front of him.
But oblivious to her foolish thoughts, the boy nodded his head as he replied in a voice that sounded like human, that had warmth in it,
"We will go to the library and study together too. I will buy you the book you wanted to have and we will even have the muffins that you liked!"
