Chapter 183: Dreams and Breakfast

The dream had brought those feelings of anger and despair to the surface, and she couldn't shake them off.

Lai knew that she had just regained one of her memories in the waking world.

"T-that was my dad," she gasped, clutching her head as flashes of her father's image raced through her mind, "So he gambled and borrowed money from scary loansharks, making me the one to pay it all back, huh?"

She lay down again silently in her dimly lit room, her hazelnut-colored eyes staring at the ceiling. As the sun cast long shadows through her bedroom window, Lai resolved to do whatever it took to regain her memories and to find a way to untangle her life from the web of debt that threatened to consume her family.

Lai woke to the soft rays of dawn streaming through her bedroom window. She lay in bed for a few moments, basking in the gentle warmth of the early morning sun as it filtered through the sheer curtains.
