Chapter 11: Arriving at the Capitol - 9
After Luyra left to find an elf village that would adopt her, Taiga spent the next 2 1/2 years focusing on his study of magic. He especially focused on controlling magic to the precision of individual atoms. He had long ago realized that the more precise, he could control his magic, the more proficient he would become.
He then started experimenting with it. He used his dark magic to devour individual bacteria cells at infection sites instead of using heal. He caused people to fall after forcing different amounts of air pressure into each of their ears, causing them to lose consciousness immediately. He used his pure mana to create a microscopic coating around his body that was on atom wide, but had the strength of steel.
Through these breakthroughs, his insight level reached 100 and then evolved into the superior skill "True Insight" using the skill "Growth".
He also taught Raia many of these "spells" although he just made random incantations for them that still worked for Raia after he explained them, because the magic in this world was based on understanding, not incantations, but nobody except him knew that yet.
One month before he and Raia turned 15, everybody was in a gloomy mood, as this was about the time that the inquisitors, took everybody with magical talent, and as both Raia and Taiga had magical talent, everybody was sad that they were about to leave. After all, after tasting Taiga's food, none of the children wanted to go back to eating that slop from before.
Taiga decided to spend more time with the children before he left so instead of practicing the entire month, he played with the children for the entire month. When they saw the sight of Taiga playing with the younger children, both Raia and Sister Christine smiled, as they thought that Taiga had finally grown up from his studying for hours everyday with no end phase, but in realty, Taiga just wanted to leave a good impression before he left.
The month passed quickly and before they knew it, Taiga and Raia where standing in the capitol city.
When they got there, they were ushered by guards into a stadium where they passed through something that looked somewhat like a metal detector back on Earth. Afterwards, the children were split into two groups, a group of people that had magic, and a group of people that didn't have magic.
They were then told that they would have to wait for one week, as they still needed to wait for the other 15 year olds to come from farther parts of the country. They were each given an allowance of 15 silver coins and then dumped on the street.
Taiga and Raia chose to go to one of the lower levels to rent a cheap room for a week.
They arrived at a hotel called "The Sun Fairy" and paid 1 silver for a week stay. They were then told when dinner was served, although the cost was not included with the room fare. The receptionist also said,
"You two better not be doing anything funny in your room, as it disturbs the other guests."
Hearing this, Raia blushed turning her whole face red. Seeing this, he stepped up and said
"I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but we are brother and sister, nothing more, nothing less"
"Alright, I'll believe you guys" and although the receptionist said this, she still doubted the relationship of the two youngsters that she saw in front of her.
When they got to their room, seeing as there was only one bed, Taiga immediately volunteered to sleep on the floor. After they unpacked, they left "The Sun Fairy" and walked around the city, experiencing it for the first time.
They bought, what seemed to them like exotic foods, at stalls, saw the famous sights, and then looked at the view from the top of the city.
There, you could see a panoramic view of the surroundings with an ocean on one side, and a plain on the other, which when you looked a little further, turned into a forest with mountains in the background.
The two children stood there in awe, even Taiga was mesmerized from what the vibrations brought back to him although he wished that he could see the view with his eyes, as one of the things that cured his boredom the best was a good view, which was why he had jumped in the first place.
After standing there, while holding hands, with the wind blowing through their hair making it sway from side to side, flapping their clothes for 30 minutes, they reluctantly let go of each other's hands and walked back down to "The Sun Fairy".
They continued to explore the city for the next few days and on the 4th day, they saw a slave caravan pulling into the city. Seeing the crowd, they hurried in and saw that a slave auction was about to take place. Disgusted by this, Raia left and pulled Taiga with her.
He had actually been wanting to see the slave auction as first, he hadn't realized that there was slavery in this world and wanted to see if it was a big business or not, secondly, he wanted to see how much it cost for a slave, so that he could measure the economic value of people and other goods in this city, and finally, he had wanted to see if there was someone of another species that was going to be sold, as he had only heard about beastkin and wanted to know more about them.
But instead of staying, he left with Raia, as his curiosity was not worth hurting his relationship with her.
"Those shameful BASTARDS! Selling people like objects! It's a disgrace to the whole human race!"
After hearing her remarks, he thought that she would definitely make a good saint and also was slightly surprised at how much she hated slavery.
After that incident, he and Raia refrained from going to the lower parts of the city and enjoyed their time together instead.
Meanwhile, in the castle a mile from where Taiga and Raia where sleeping, there was the same group of elders from before fervently discussing with the king again.
"According to the prophecy, the demon king should be 15 years of age this year, that means he will most likely be in the magic group this year."
"If we can weed the pest out before he graduates and leaves, then we can eradicate him from this world, saving humanity"
The king then spoke up and said, "Use all resources necessary to catch the bastard, if we fail, who knows what will happen to the world, and my daughter."
Hearing this, a young adult girl that was eavesdropping on their conversation was shocked and stumbled, making a slight noise. She immediately fled back to her room wondering how this demon king was supposed to be connected to her.
