Chapter 21: Ch-21 Sudden Mind Change..
Inside Study Room,
Edith was silently sitting inside Ethan's study while doing something on her phone. Her facial expressions were very tense when Ethan entered the study and Edith put her phone back and composed herself then said,'' You wanted to talk?,".
Ethan nodded and sat opposite to her on the couch and said," Yeah, Actually it's about grandma's treatment, we will go with the operation,".
Edith stared at him for a few seconds and then said," Are you sure about this ? you still have time to decide,".
Ethan smiled and said," Grandpa said he trusts you and even if something happens he will accept it as his destiny,".
Edith chuckled a little then said," Ok we will schedule the operation for next month,".
Ethan frowned and said," Why not this month only?,".
Edith patiently replied," Mr. Smith I also have other patients who are as important as grandma Rachel and I already have 4 surgeries lined up for this month. My schedule is very tight this month,".
Ethan nodded and said," Understood, but her health will not get worse right?,".
Edith looked at him and said," I will take care of her no need to worry, by the way did she agree?,"
Ethan took a deep breath and shook his head and said," Grandpa and Dad will talk to her in few days,".
Edith nodded and said," Ok if you need any help in convincing just give me a call on this number,". After saying that she took out a customized card from her phone cover and gave it to Ethan.
Ethan took the card and also gave his personal card to Edith while saying," If you need any help regarding anything or if you want to talk about grandma's help you can just call me on my personal number,".
Edith smiled and nodded while taking the card from him after that she looked at him and asked," Is that it? Anything else?,".
Ethan looked at her eyes and hesitated for a while then said," Uhm actually about last night, I really didn't know anything about their plan , even it was also a shock for me,".
Edith smiled bitterly and said," I'm not stupid Mr. Smith I can see that,".
Ethan nodded and asked," Are you fine? You were quite upset yesterday but you don't have to worry about Grandpa William, he just said that at that moment I'm sure he didn't really mean it. I have known him for a long time and whenever I met him he would always talk about how great his grandchildren are and how lucky he is to have you and Leo, He will never leave you, ".
Edith stare at his face and suddenly chuckled then said," Mr. Smith you don't have to defend him. I know my grandpa very well and I can tell when he is joking around and when he was being serious and yesterday was the day when was serious because if not then he would have never said anything about my past,".
Ethan looked at her blank expression then said," Maybe he is not wrong I'm not saying you to marry but at least you can give yourself a chance with someone else, it's not always too late and your family just want you to be happy,".
Edith frowned after hearing his words and then stood up from the sofa and said harshly," Who said I'm not happy ? I'm very happy in my life and I can say the same to you why don't you move on?,".
Ethan's body stiffen when he heard her words and just stared at her face blankly, Edith scoffed and said," That's what I thought , You know what it's very easy to advice but very difficult too actually do it, love is a very beautiful feeling but it's equally dangerous it can scar you for life and scars never heal they just become a part of your life and its unnecessary to heal a scar we can just accept it,".
Ethan also stood up and said," With time scars also heal. It takes time but it heals and with the help of an ointment it heals faster,".
Edith raised her brows after hearing his words and said after thinking something," You surely know how to talk, so do you want to become my ointment?,".
" What?," Ethan's eyes widened when he heard her question.
Edith again took a seat and said while looking at him," Take a seat let's talk," Ethan took a seat immediately and stared at her face.
Edith thought about something then said," You said scars heals with the help of an ointment then why not you become an ointment for my scars,".
Ethan stared at her face and said ," Do you even know what you are saying?,".
Edith nodded and said," I know, let's get married, both families will be happy, and kids will also be very happy. All they need is a mother and I would love to be one,".
Ethan sat straight and said," Have you gone crazy or what? Marriage is not a joke Dr. Wood, my kids are no joke, I can't risk my kids happiness just because of your sudden decision. Till yesterday you were against this and suddenly you wanted to marry a stranger whom you met yesterday. This will not only affect their life but also yours , I don't think I will ever love you,".
Edith smiled and said," Who said anything about love? huh? I don't want it nor can I give it to you, and I have thought about it and I think I can live peacefully with you and your kids and I have my reasons also, As much as I know you don't want a wife because you can't love her but what if I don't want love? All I want is respect and a peaceful life, I can guarantee you that Maria and Louis will never feel like I'm not their mother. I will do my best to raise them, and I can also be a very supportive partner for you,".
Ethan's face twitched at her words and he said," What reason do you have ? I can bet there's something more that's why you changed your mind,".
Edith stare at him and hesitate for a while but then said," I wanted to adopt a baby girl, her name is Erin she turned 1 two months ago her mother was my patient but in a bus accident she lost her life Erin was only 3 month old at that time and she doesn't have a father I mean her mother was a single parent she never told who was Erin's father nor does he ever came so after Erin's mother death she was sent for adoption, at that time she was under my care and I got attached to her after her 1st birthday I decided to adopted her so I filled the document in states before coming here but Flex just messaged me that the adoption center will only give the child to a married couple rather than a single women, and I can't possibly lose her I just love her very much," she explained her situation. Just as she said, when she was alone in the study she was chatting with Flex about Erin's adoption and that's when he told her about the problem and marrying Ethan was the only solution she could think off at this time she will not only get Erin but also Maria and Louis and she will gladly accept such a deal even if that's mean she will get unloving husband but she does not really care about that as Ethan was not bad he was good enough for her.
Ethan was shocked and surprised at the same time when he heard that he really was not expecting such a big reason for her decision , now he get it why she was so desperate, at first he didn't say anything after few minutes of thinking he looked at Edith and said," Give me some time I'll think about it,".
" How much?Ugh! don't get me wrong but I can't take risks with the adoption process as there are many parents who want to adopt kids," Edith said hurriedly.
Ethan took a deep breath and said," Just give me the time till dinner you can have your dinner here till then I will decide just give me that much time to think about it,".
Edith stood up and said," Ok just call me when you want to talk. I'll make dinner today, and By the way, which school Maria and Louis attend?,".
Ethan got confused by her question and said," Horizon Elementary school , why?,".
Edith nodded and said," For Mike, I was searching for the best school here in London and Horizon Elementary is one of the best but I needed a second opinion so that's why, I will visit there in a few days for his admission purpose,".
Ethan nodded and said," Hm,".
Edith started to walk while saying," I should leave now I have a lot of work to do,".
Ethan also stood up and said," Call me if you need any help I'm free today,".
Edith shook her head and said," No thanks, enjoy your day with the kids, I have called some men for help". Ethan nodded and then they left the study.
After that Edith talked to Maria and Louis for 10 mins then left Ethan's condo after promising them to eat dinner together.
After Edith was gone Ethan spent a few hours with his kids then put them to bed for a nap and then started to do some office work in his study.
