Locating a Demon

Countless weeks have passed and I was already on the move in locating my insentient target.

Out of all the classifications of Demons implanted in my head, through deduction, I had concluded that the one I was more or less capable of bringing down, would be the Dullahan.

'A headless Demon. The harbinger of all mortals' deaths. Described with a flaming neck in knight's armor... Ye who witnesses thus, shall ne'er approach tomorrow's light'

"—Is what Mash wrote... I surmise it's really strong. Considering how that 'Mash,' described it so grimly. And it was in code, to boot!"

Assessing and figuring out what skills it might have from visualizing the decoded texts that I've already hammered unto my thick-brain...

I said in a troubled face "This is difficult..." But Rimu's very existence outglowed all my worries

Grabbing her from beside me, I raised her above head level. "Rimu, my one and only stress-reliever."

Shook my head, I thought, '—Oh wait, that's wrong. She's not a tool!' I added with an expression, so gentle, "Let me correct myself. You make me calm... Your very presence is soothing..."

Henceforward, Rimu, bounced back to my head. After then, I stood and decided!

"I'll give all of them my temporary farewell before I start my adventure! By all, I mean everyone in this castle. "

'—After all, I'm going Dullahunting!' I stood...

Consequently, I went to their rooms one by one. First visited Hiro as I could detect his presence next to mine...

Knock-Knock...

Click

Snapping my fingers, I made Magia particles visible and wrote thus from thin air...

[Lest, time's come for I, to depart. Yet thou ne'er fret for myself shall return!]

Hiro's face, dumbly astounded, he remained standing in his door while I turned my back and left...

I wanted to laugh so hard, but to spare Hiro his embarrassment, I maintained conserved,

Subsequently, I went to the other Legions room, as there were 3 more at my [Refined Perception's] partial range.

Firstly was Koichi. Because his room was just beside Hiro's, I went and knocked. He opened up. Did the same greeting to him,

"Snap..."

His eyes opened. I then figured 'Ah, he got the message. That's Koichi for you. Smarter than typical Hiro.'

Secondly, Elric, Marx, and so on. Although, I had a really hard time approaching the following 2, — Suisei and Shin, nonetheless, I still garnered the courage.

After my crypted farewells ended, I proceeded to the King's throne to ask for permission. There, I saw...

"Haaaa! It's you! This time it really is you!"

It was Kou! Upon my entry, they ceased their conversation. His father, sitting, amused by our reactions, he laughed... It was just like how typical Fantasy Kings chuckle.

Asked King Weiss boldly,"Shuma, my child, what business do you have with me today?"

Interrupted Kou, rudely. "—Father, what's this commoner doing in our palace?!" Retorted King Weiss, "Show this man some respect Kou. He is the 10th Member of the Legion. A miracle blessed upon us!"

With a face, ever smug. I stood in both royals' presence...

'— That's right, Prince Kou... Show some respect to the oh-so-ever-fantastic-Shuma! Hehe...'

With a 'Click' of his teeth, he left and "Slammed," the two-way door of the Throne Room.

'Yeah, Kei is much better than Kou...'

King Weiss, then inquired once more. "Shuma, once again, I ask. What need do you have from this old man?"

Replying with a straight face, I bowed, and said, "King Weiss, I wish to leave the Kingdom for a few weeks... Or months, mayhap."

'—Well, I can't really leave Weiss permanently just yet. I need the Magia Records!'

I stood up composedly, "I'm planning to start an adventure. An adventure that proves myself the strongest!"

I refused to hear the King's reply. It was not that, I thought of not getting my approval. It was exactly because, I knew that he'd give me his approval, that I had left.

I turned back with my robe, swaying gallantly... Looking back, it was rather cool of me to have had carried Rimu like a treasured Slime!

As I was walking the palace halls...

[Special Skill: Ranged Telepathy, Acquired]

I utilized the skill I had created.

[Skill: Ranged Telepathy, Activated]

It had reached the minds of everyone in the palace. From the Legions, to the King, to the Royal Princes, to the Servants and Knights. The message — Saying the exact same thing as I did to the Legions. "—Lest, time's come for I, to depart. Yet thou ne'er falter for myself shall return!"

While I was perceiving their baffled reactions, I went back to my room. From there, I packed my stuff. — Especially, the weekly allowance I got from Legion duty.

Since currency, no matter which world, was always important, I thought thus. "Just food for the both of us would do. Good thing I got around 1000 Golden Coins."

Thus, the great I, had left the palace grounds! From my self-visualized map.

"I need to enter a different rule, huh? To Hell, I enter!"

[Gravitative Negation, Activated]

And so, I flew. As it was a Skill I was unaccustomed to using, I lost balance very often. Thankfully, I had [Empirical] and [Passive Progression] to help me learn faster.

With the countless hours of traversing the skies, I had taken, I managed to have a grasp on how to control the difficult spell.

At that time, had I thought 'The longer I stay in this world, the stronger I just become'

Uttered I, in the heavens up above. "I feel like an Isekai Protagonist. Bwahahahahah!"

Alas, as I was laughing, Almighty Shuma, made a huge mistake! I had swallowed a bug!

"Uhgh-huh... Uhgh-huh" Coughing hard while covering my mouth with my left, I firmly carried Rimu on the other.

Whispered I, in a face, disappointed, "This fool, blundered so pathetically..."

Wobbleeeeeeeeeeee

Staring at Rimu while smiling, "Oh-hoh? You enjoying this? My dear Slime?"

Wobbleeeeeeeeeeee

'Indeed she does...'

Henceforth, our long flight, persisted. I took periodical rests to replenish lost Magia, took off... rested. It was a cycle that I repeated...

And thus... Up in the heavens, a land, so barren, revealed itself. The soil — Red and lifeless. It was a place ever dark, and light very faint. The geography was composed mostly of inorganic matter.

Rocks, crystals, and the likes, spread far.

I took a landing and looked around, "Mhmmm. This was not the kind of hell I was expecting. Where's the flames!?!?" I exclaimed with eyes furrowed... I was so disappointed!

I stretched my perception far and wide and reflectively, I said. "So far, no signs of life."

'I guess the Dullahan really is here? It's a territory as large as Weiss so I guess it's not so far-fetched that it is, here.'

I tread arbitrarily with Rimu atop my head. Despite how far I traversed, it was all the same! Rocks with weird, shelter-like shapes! It was as if, the place was once inhabited by some intelligent monsters!

Creeped out, I tried to fortify my awareness ever-more!

[Skill Evolution, Commencing... Consolidation, Successful]

[Ultimate Skill: Precise Perception, Acquired]

To my surprise, a new skill was obtained!

'Ah, this is just a leveled up version of [Refined Perception].'

I sensed every bits of details! From the tiniest rock, to the most complexed structure. It was like how a blueprint or a geographical map is drawn. The place's layout was perceived in shapes, yet, I saw all its delicate features!

Leaping out of intense excitement, I yelled! "Hell Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Finally the skill I have been waiting for!" Soon after, I regained my equanimity.

Walking the lifeless land, had I remained vigilant. Minutes passed. ten... twenty... sixty... two hours... four and finally!

With my refined skill, I perceived... "Well, who woulda thought. It's a Cerberus. I see that it's quite weakened. Must be a Dullahan's doing? At least that confirms its existence"

With high hopes, I traveled for a few more minutes but to no avail... "Still no sign. huh? How about we try teleporting back, Rimu? Let's try looking for food or something. I'm hungry!"

Wobble

"Mhmm, sounds good"

Thus I teleported back outside the Devil's Field's boundaries..

From there, I extended my [Perception] as remote as possibly could, I sensed a village just around the corner of its range. The buildings, seemingly pillaged, and villagers laying low, lifeless on the burning sight. It disturbed me, but I still went on composedly.

Hence I arrived. "As expected..."

The sight of blood etched its image inside my head. "Uhh, it's relatively fresh. I shouldn't have come here..." As what I had seen was something so graphic, I was about to throw up.

"Kuh, hold it in... Buh..."

'— And here I was expecting a treat... Gwuh...'

I was disgusted, yet somewhat saddened. I was used to seeing dead monsters but I was not accustomed to seeing dead humans...

"Urghhh..."

While I covered my nose and mouth with my left hand.

"—Crash!" I heard something from my skill, [Precise Perception.]

Observing the scene of slaughter encompassed by the tragic flames ever-so-carefully...

All the details, the structures, basically everything. From all those, I sensed something, or rather, someone...

Stuck at a building full of debris.

"Crackle, Thud!" The fire kept on spreading. It ate away the wood slowly!

"He... l..ppp" Uttered a man in a low voice..."

Swiftly I placed Rimu atop my head. [Teleportation, Activated]

With haste, came to his rescue. I panicked. "Sir! Sir!"

Focusing all thoughts on saving the man... 'A skill! Make a skill! One that could manipulate objects!'

[Ability Skill: Psychokinesis, Acquired]

"Whoosh" The rubble floated, "Thud-Thud," colliding into each other, I took the bloodied man, from the burden. He muttered "Who.. ever... Yo... u... are... avenge... us... from... the... Tra... ve... l... ers..."

I sensed no pulse... My eyes were surely turning shallow. 'Why couldn't I have come sooner?' That, I asked myself.

"If i could've come much earlier, I'm pretty sure I could've Killed... Kill, is a strong word..." Thought, in a lifeless attitude...

I became very unresponsive... It was basically a first for me to be able to witness a person, dead with my own eyes... I struck the ground with my fists and cursed all evil...

"One day, just. One day! I will... Tsk! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" I screamed! I was frustrated, and I too, was probably depressed.

After a few while, In the middle of the sea of blood, I became relatively calm.

'I'm fortunate. I already had this Slime before even beginning my reckless adventures. She helped me overcome many impossible obstacles...' I had thought contemplatively.

'Dammit... Tsk...' I said in annoyance with my palm on my forehead.

Expressionless, I mumbled. "Rimu. What should I do? I was supposed to be on an adventure to raise my reputation as a Legion. Not to hunt some Travelers... I... I want to at least... respect that man's last wishes..."

"The most I could do is... give their corpses the rest they need..."

I then thought of a skill. One that's capable of purifying the souls of the tainted and absorb their life force. — It was the only skill I could have thought back then to make them feel at ease.

[Ultimate Skill: Archangel's Call, Acquired]

Extending the skill, it swallowed the whole village. A gleam, or rather, a magical circle, so bright, formed above, covering the vicinity up to its extremity.

As followed, their bodies dematerialized into bubbles of light... Slowly... It was like, Heaven had accepted them.

'They must've been filled with extensive hate. Otherwise, that skill wouldn't have worked...'

I facepalmed, "Ahhh, now that I know that, how could I not avenge them? That'd make me look like a darned bad guy!"

'— This is so... Unfair...'

With eyes so lifeless. "I will track this 'Travelers' band for you guys." Touching my chest, and letting my arms rest on it, "I swear that upon my life..."

Followed, I took off from the Village...

With my senses becoming hyperactive, I looked far and wide... Tracked every little clues leading to those bastards' trail.

For hours, every prints, no matter how insignificant — I paid attention to. From the movements of the grasses, the broken twigs, invisible animal footprints and after a while... "Found those ass-holes' tracks." Their location... "Weiss..."

'Those bastards are going by horse. Think they can corrupt that good King's country? Hah! Hell no! Not when I catch your sorry asses!'

Following the marks they had left, I utilized teleportation. I paid no heed to how low my Magia would be. I was entirely dead. My heart, was that full of despise.

In the few hours I had teleported restlessly, I was thinking along the way, 'Those fools... Think they can pillage a village just because they have the strength...' I was utterly enraged but I showed no hint of it!

Swallowed by the hate, I rushed... In a few more hours... Minutes... Seconds, I saw them within range!

[Remote Transfer, Activated]

As I arrived, They were joyfully conversing and some even ridiculed the villagers' deaths! That got me pissed and I lost my sanity! The man who seemed to be their leader — His limbs, I mutilated. I was entirely swallowed by disgust! Not by their massacre but by them, themselves!

Dismembering them one by one, I uttered with shallow eyes "I can't kill but I can hurt... So long as you guys live, I can create an instantly healing spell to torment bastards like you perpetually. AHAH-HAHAHAH!"

I slowly became broken! Rimu, atop my head seemed to have remained completely still... As if... She was fearing my insanity...

Slash! Slash! Slash!

And finally, all of them had their limbs cut apart. Their sorry sight... Blood, leaking from their sliced body parts, screaming in agony... Some, asking for forgiveness, while some cussing badly...

"Do you want to live? Huh? Fools...? Answer me... ANSWEEEEEEEEEEEEER MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

In pain, they all screamed, "PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEEEEEE. SAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE USSSSSSSSSSSSS!"

[Ultimate Skill: Instantaneous Recovery, Acquired... Skill, Activated]

Re-growing their cut up limbs, they cried, bowed and said their pathetic thanks.

"Do you think I'm over with you?"

I repeated the same process. Dismember, heal, dismember, heal... I made sure to offer them intense-satisfying-excruciating pain. They screamed out loud but I was too blinded by disdain!

"I overheard one of you say so — "Giving people pain is fun..." So... I surmise, this is... FUN?!, RIGHT!? HAHAHAHAHA! Please do, enjoy the pain I'm going to put all you through. EXPERIENCE THE HELL YOU'VE GRANTED THOSE VILLAGERS!"

"Ahhhh! Please! Please!"

His eyes, turned white. He fainted...

Maniacally, I exclaimed "HAHAHAHAHAH! hey, one of you... lost consciousness? I thought pain was FUN?! — Slash! Aww man, how pathetic..."

"Please, spare us! — Slash! — Ahhhh!"

Coldly, I stared and stated condescendingly " Spare? Hell no... Did you even think twice? Butchering those poor villagers? You laughed at their pitiable deaths."

Slash! "— Ahhhhh!"

[Instantaneous Recovery, Activated]

"PLEASE, NO! PLEASE!"

"Trying to run won't get you anywhere... WON'T YOU AGREE?!"

Slash! Their sorry sight was something so revolting but I just stood normally, unfazed....

Sproing-Boing-Sproing-Boing. Rimu jumped from my head and bounced away.

'Rimu...' My eyes regaining its rationality back...

I turned and yelled, 'Rimu! Wait!'

Before I followed her, I remarked a threateningly, "Cry, tear up... Move a single muscle... I won't hesitate to cut off your heads with lingering eternal pain. The only thing I permit you to do is breath. Violate that, and I will kill you." With that bluff, I intimidated them. I tried to approach Rimu but she just kept on 'Sproing-ing-Boing-ing'

"Rimu! PLEASE WAIT!" She stopped...

She wobbled like crazy!

'I think... I'm at fault here...'

Gently, I spoke "Rimu... I'm sorry... For scaring you, like that... Will you accept my forgiveness?"

Wobble...

'She's still scared... If that's the case... I have to...'

My eyes, becoming more and more devoid of spirit, Rimu reacted.

Wobble-Boing-Sproing

"Rimu..." Picking her up, I then embraced her and said "I'm sorry for losing control like that..." And so, I placed her back in my head.

Going back to the travelers... "YOU FOOLS!"

"—KAAAAAH!"

I had somewhat regained my reason. My eyes turned normal.

"Listen up! I'll be sentencing all of you in Weiss' Cellar for eternity. Lament on your idiocy and your sins perpetually!"

I created a ranged Teleportation Formula and a Magical Circle appeared... Our bodies, along with the animals carrying their pillaged items... Slowly turned transparent and after a few while, We arrived at the Throne Room, where the King sat.

"What on Heavens!?" Exclaimed the King. His Knights were... Guarded.

Added King Weiss, "Shuma, Who on earth did you bring back?!"

I bowed my head with eyes, so furious and replied "King Weiss, forgive me for the sudden intrusion but I would like you to imprison these fools. As you can see behind me... Pillaged goods. They slaughtered a whole village mercilessly for such abhorrent reason. My King, I leave them in your hands. Now I shall be off... I promise to return."

The King smiled. I knew he had placed his trust on the foolish me. With a serious face, I turned back and left without saying a word.

[Remote Transfer, Activated]

To the Demon's Field, I returned. Noticing the change I underwent within just a few days, I inspected myself. 'I think I've gotten a lot stronger?'

"If I witnessed such a depressing incident, I'd probably snap and try some reckless whims."

My ever-still-expression, turned darker '—Recalling it pains me so...'

"This is a scar that will remain forever etched into my heart and mind"

Thereafter, I tread ever carefully. After a few more hours of exploration, I caught sight of something that seemed like a footprint.

Engaging myself in in-depth observation, "Looks like something resembling that of a Human. From its foot size... Calculating height... Yup. Matches with my visualized Dullahan."

Spread my Perception to its utmost range, I perceived carcasses of imps, Cerberus, Hellhounds. — Essentially, the residents of Hell!

I teleported. There, I caught sight of many lifeless beings. I had found myself a clue to the Dullahan's whereabouts.

Somewhat hyped, I kept on moving. Found more dead bodies... Here, there... It was a mountain of corpses.

"This Dullahan really is merciless is it?"

'— No wonder why it's called Harbinger of Death. — Although, I believe the sole existence called 'Death' is much more dangerous.'

Slowly getting fed up with walking. Using my [Perception,] I looked for a structure to rest and hide.

'That cave works.'

[Remote Transfer, Activated]

Engulfing my vision, a deep cave. Its opening — profound. Its quiet nature helped me calm down, yet, it also turned me cautious.

"What time is it now I wonder?"

'— When I tortured those guys good, it was already evening so I guess it's already nighttime?'

I checked the proximity... Nothing at present. I was secured. Feeling at ease, I sat flat on the ground. Grabbed Rimu, and embraced her softly. Thereafter, I fell asleep.

When I awoke...

I stretched my arms "Gwaaah," and positioned my Slime atop my head.

As I went outside, "The time cycle here remains — Dark... That's hell for you."

Subsequently, I resumed my search. Tracking the trails it was leaving behind, I still had no clue where it was. Continued my hunt for countless more hours, Analyzing, analyzing, analyzing... I finally caught sight of it!

A figure, just as how the book described. — The headless Knight, with its neck, coated in flames.

Therefore, I solidified my fighting capabilities and prepared for battle!
