The pup made a panicked screeching sound, and I had to stop myself from running to him. It was worse for his parents, Bronx being held back by other wolves, and Chayanne got to her feet, only to fall beside me. Paul took no notice of us. He just kept arguing with his men about how he had everything under control. Telling them he was the one in charge and they had to listen to him. That felt like a joke and was probably why this team was back here, where nothing was likely to happen.
Even Ezekiel knew better than to give Paul any real responsibilities.
"Tell the pack to stay still," I whisper to Chayanne, still trying to get up. Paul hurt her, breaking bones and making her already weakened state worse. Still, that was her baby he was holding, and she was doing what any mother would. "I'll get him back."
