"When are you going home?" Luke and I were sitting in the bed of my truck, watching for the buses to arrive.
I'd come to the packhouse after Vince called to tell me they were heading back to the territory.
"I'm not." Then, turning to face my friend, I scowl at him. He'd already stayed longer than he'd intended, and I was shocked to hear what he was saying. "I can't leave."
"Luke, your pack needs you." As much as I want him to stay, I can't ask that of him. My pack had hundreds. He had over a thousand. That was a lot of mouths to feed and people to protect. Yeah, his pack were incredible warriors, but an Alpha couldn't stay away for too long. Especially when there was no Luna. "You can't justify abandoning them to help us."
"I can't justify leaving my king." Of course, the one person I hadn't expected to jump on was Luke. "You need us. This is bigger than someone wanting your mate as their own."
