My mother's squeal has Nefera stopping in her tracks. It takes all her willpower to not run and hide behind me, but I can feel how uncomfortable she feels. The reality was, Nefera knew she was beautiful. It wasn't because I told her every chance that I got. It was because it was evident to anyone with eyes. But, the strange thing about it was that Nefera seemed afraid of it.
Everything my mate did was to subdue that beauty. Like it was something she needed to hide away or it would hurt someone. As much as I want to blame the bastard and his family for their attempts to destroy my mate's self-esteem, it worries me that she's like that.
Nefera deserved to be in the spotlight. She was Luna, and showing off was her privilege.
"I was worried it was too bright," my mom examined the clothes. "But you pull it off."
"Where exactly are we going?" Nefera asks warily.
