Chapter 297 [Far East]

Year 2065, humanity is increasingly on the brink of destruction thanks to the presence of entities that humanity called [Aragami]. These beasts existed only to destroy, kill and devour, to the point that sceptics called it the planet's punishment for human greed.

"I knew you would be here" - said a beautiful woman of about 21 years old as she walked in the direction of a young blond man. She had short black hair, blood red eyes and a body that would be the envy of many women if only they weren't in the middle of an apocalypse. Her clothes didn't help much either, she was wearing a black top that was tied at her neck and back and only covered her breasts, exposing her flat stomach, a green beach skirt over black shorts and finally some high heels - "I still don't understand why you always come to this place to watch the sky."

"It's because I'm waiting for someone..." - replied the blond man as he looked at the woman with his blue eyes.

She was glazed over for a few seconds by his reptilian pupils before shaking her head to push away the thoughts that roamed through her mind.

"Not to be cruel, but I think you should give it up," the woman said as she shook her head, "It's been six years since we met and that's a pretty long time for two civilian women to have survived."

"You say that because you don't know them like I do, Sakuya" - replied the man with a smile - "Those two won't die that easily... but what surprises me is that I have no information about them, not with the equipment they use."

". . ." - Sakuya just shook her head as she felt jealousy growing inside her. She had known the man in front of her for 6 years and still couldn't understand him 100%, something that annoyed her to no end.

"Anyway, Lindow wants to see me again?" - The man asked as he looked at the beautiful woman for a few seconds.

"Exactly, he wants you to go on a reconnaissance mission, again... I swear he's been a bit tense lately" - said the woman now known as Sakuya.

"I would be too if those things were attacking with increasing frequency" - replied the man as he shrugged - "Well, I guess I'll go talk to that self-centred idiot."

"I don't think you have the right to call him that when you're just like him, Cloud" - replied Sakuya as she rolled her eyes at him - "I guess it's true what they say, birds of a feather if they fly together."

"And what does that make you, Sakuya-chan?" - Cloud asked as he gave the woman a smile, only to notice how she blushed at the suffix he called her only when they were alone.

"Just an idiot woman who can't leave her friends alone" - replied Sakuya as she averted her gaze - "Ok, I think that's enough of games, you can go to Lindow's."

"Ok, I'm going right away" - nodded Cloud before retreating, not noticing how the woman stayed in place watching the sky.

"It would be so wonderful if you didn't have those women on your mind all the time, Cloud" - Sakuya murmured because she could see how special those two girls were even though it had been so long, after all, he always came to watch the horizon at this time hoping he could see them - "I wish you would have been this loyal to me..."

Six years was more than enough time for a woman to fall in love with a man who was initially unknown, more so when the two had spent so much time together.

She could still remember how she had found him in the middle of a city torn apart by an [Aragami] attack, how his body was completely damaged and how quickly he healed. Sakuya could remember it like it was yesterday, all because that was the first mission she went on with him then team made up of her now leader Lindow and her older sister Tsubaki, who honestly had a huge rivalry for reasons she didn't want to talk about.

At first, he was a mystery because there was no information about his existence, and his blood wasn't registered in the database either, making it seem as if the boy had appeared out of nowhere, but over time she began to discover many interesting things that made her gain his interest.

Cloud was strong, no, that was a term that anyone could reach, so she decided to say that he wasn't strong, but he was a monster, one that could fight hand to hand with some [Aragami], not only that, all his other physical abilities as well as his learning abilities were far superior to a normal human, it was as if he was born to fight humanity's greatest threat, so it took a long time for him to become the fourth member of their team.

After that, the group got closer and closer, to the point that Cloud and Lindow became best friends, to the point that the blond would stay in the brothers' room, things that honestly annoyed her at the time because she always thought 'I was the one who found him, he should sleep in MY room'.

"Ugh... I still cringe when I remember that..." - Sakuya said as she shook her head and looked in the direction where the blonde man had disappeared.

"I swear to god Lindow should pull that stick out of his ass," muttered Cloud as he walked by a huge sword perched on his shoulder. This sword was so long it could practically be compared to the length of a pickup truck - "I know things are about to get out of hand, but seriously, he should loosen up a bit, maybe get a girl..."

Cloud could only curse his friend's orders as he looked around in boredom.

"I guess the [Oracle Cells] infection is starting to spread" - Cloud muttered as he squinted - "Lucky I'm immune to these effects, though it's obvious when a much more dangerous entity is trying to devour me."

Cloud had learned many things during his six year stay in this world, the first being the existence of cells called [Oracle Cells], the basic unit that created the beasts known as [Aragami], these surrounded a nucleus that commanded the others to devour all manner of matter in order to spread throughout the organism and thus mutate the affected one, turning it into an [Aragami] after a while.

"Though I have to admit it's a surprise to see that I can identify where the core is and what happens when I devour it" - Cloud muttered as he pulled out a fragment of flesh he had kept in his inventory. He stared at it for a few seconds before squeezing it hard and watching as the piece of meat was consumed by flames.

[Activating Magic [Dragon Slayer of the Apocalypse]]

[Core of [Aragami] consumed... analysing species... analysed species [Ogretail], gaining related benefits... +1 VIT]

"Free stats, it's a nice benefit as compensation, too bad the benefits get less and less the more I devour" - Cloud said while shaking his head - "Though I have to admit that the more cores I devour, the more my DNA stabilizes... I guess Celestine was right."

Cloud looked in the direction of his assigned area, only to frown as he noticed how everything was far too quiet for all the chaos that had been going on for the past few weeks.

"Better get this over with quick, something tells me things are about to get interesting" - Cloud thought as he started speeding in the direction of his assigned area, only to frown as he saw a large number of [Ogretail] - "Really? Just you guys?"

"ROAR!" - the 'little beasts' that consisted of the largest population of [Aragami] lunged at the blond, only to be cut in half with utmost ease by the massive sword he had on his man - "This is boring, Lindow should give me harder jobs..."

[If you're done complaining with the microphone on, you'd better finish quickly and get back to base, we've got a mission!]

"Oh? Please tell me it's nothing to do with cleaning up some cadets' mess, I'm bored of taking on these [Ogretail] because I feel like I'm stealing their candy from little kids" - Cloud said neutrally while conversing with his leader.

[I'm sorry to tell you that they're just a huge group of F-ranked [Aragami], though by their numbers I'd say the Danger Rank will go up to C].

"It's still the same danger as a group of [Kongou]" - Cloud replied boredly - "They're annoying, but the only problem is the numbers. Anyway, you're the leader so I guess I'll follow your orders, old friend."

[If you weren't my best friend and following my orders, I'd have sent you to another squad by now, Cloud.]

"You do something like that and Sakuya kills you" - Cloud replied as he let out a laugh, only to cut the [Aragami] running in his direction in half - "Or do you want me to remind you what happened when she caught you drinking her beer?"

[Ugh, don't even remind me, my back still hurts from those non-lethal bullets she shot at me.... Anyway, better finish up quick we have to go to the [Far East] Branch Cadet Academy."

"[Far East]? Oh, Sakuya won't be happy about this" - said Cloud as he let out a laugh - "Good luck telling her, Lindow."
