Chapter 124: Bali II

Balinese people use Balinese as the language of communication between Balinese people in addition to Indonesian and English. Balinese is a subgroup of the Western Austronesian language family, spoken by about three million speakers.

The Balinese language has an important function and position in the life of Balinese people, especially on topics of a traditional nature such as discussing customary issues (in meetings or meetings called sangkep) culture and religion (Hinduism).

Balinese language consists of two dialects:

The Bali Aga or Bali Mula dialect spoken by the Balinese in the highlands of Bali

The Balinese dialect of the plains spoken by residents who generally live in low-lying areas in Bali.
