Chapter 2: Two Letter Word NO
After History ended, Mabel was about to leave so she could finally head home and rest when the History teacher asked her to wait behind, she didn't think it was something serious so she waited calmly until she heard what the history teacher had to say.
She got a B at the last pop quiz and he knew it was unlike her. She was totally dying from heartbreak. She had always led a life of permanent straight A's so how on earth did she get a B? This was going to ruin her permanent record for life.
The History teacher was nice enough to give her an idea. If she could get extra credits, he would be able to give her a good looking A but how to get the extra credits, she would have to tutor someone, help them to get good grades and come back later to tell of her accomplishment.
Mabel wanted to cry. Getting the extra credits wasn't going to be easy at all. She was an introvert. Who was she supposed to talk to that would let her tutor them? She had no friends, nobody knew she existed except some of the teachers, apart from that, it would be pointless because the person might not be so serious.
And just like a good memory, Holden Langford asking her to tutor him played back in her head. He was her last and best shot, she couldn't let him leave without telling her if he still wanted her help. She immediately rushed out of history class and went to where he always parked his car. He was about to leave, she ran on full speed and banged the door softly scaring Jace who was also inside.
She remembered apologizing but couldn't talk afterwards because she was trying to catch her breath, she didn't even hear what Jace said so she replied by asking What so he could repeat himself.
Jace was about to ask again but Holden quickly spoke. " Brownie? You? Why are you in a hurry?", he asked softly and she wanted to make sure she heard well so she said "what?", Jace this time was tired of her nonsensical what all the time.
"Have you got hearing issues?", he emphasized each word and she chuckled at him softly. " No I can hear totally fine, I'm just surprised that Holden has a soft voice, I thought he was muted and Cold", she said and quickly remembered what brought her here.
" I'm actually here because I wanted to ask if you were still looking for someone to tutor you, just wanted to say I'll be right here if you need me.... but I do hope you need me", Mabel said the last part in more of a whisper but Jace heard and smirked in his mind. ' The girl must have realized how much of a fool she was refusing Holden and wanted the offer back'.
" Actually Holden has a tutor now sweetie and that's me", Jace said and Mabel stared at Holden in shock. He already found a tutor, so quickly, how come? What was she thinking refusing to help Holden. B was going to be her permanent record for life.
" Why do you all of a sudden want to tutor me? Because I remember clearly and you said No, your answer was a two letter word NO, there after you added, because you were too fucking busy", he said and she sighed deeply.
" Well yes I didn't want to help you study because I was actually busy keeping my grades high. But sadly I got a B in History and I need extra credits", she said and Holden frowned. " What the fuck is extra credits? and you use too many big words", Holden asked and also complained.
Jace sighed and got into the car. This was now Holden and the Nerd's matter. He relaxed himself in the car not caring about anything else.
Mabel took her time and explained the word extra credits to him and he some times annoyed her, disturbing her about how big her grammar was. Well she needed his help and for that she would bare anything.
" Ok, You can drop by my house tomorrow, by noon, I don't fucking have Jace as a tutor, he was just pissing you off", he said and got into his car.
Mabel watched the car drive away and quickly ran to her car. She brought out a bottle of water and washed her ears. Holden was just using inappropriate words just now and she didn't want to get tainted. Now she felt like the Holden who came to ask her to tutor him was different from the Holden she spoke to just now.
She got into her car and headed straight home. she had a lot to think about, Holden needed to get back on track and she needed a good and beautiful A.
On her arrival at home, she found her mom talking to the neighbors about something, more like arguing. Well it was about time someone stood up to those neighbors, that was the last option or they would move out of the neighborhood.
" Mrs Cee would you please leave my courtyard, we no longer own Pixie and we wish nothing to do with that dog if it's causing a ruckus how is it our problem?", the neighbor said and banged the door on Mabel's mom.
Mrs Cee also called Flore grumbled till she was at her porch and saw her darling nerdy daughter.
" You're back", she said with less enthusiasm and hugged Mabel and so did Mabel in return. " Yes mom, how did it go, it didn't go well did it?", she asked for Flore to sigh tiredly.
" Well I'm pretty starving so why don't I go freshen up and you make us dinner there after we video chat with Dad, that might get us in the mood", Mabel said trying to lift back the atmosphere.
One day, just one day, she would show their annoying neighbor what it felt like to smell like dog poop. Well One day but we both know that one day was never coming. She was too good to actually do it, now she wished she made friends at a younger age, she wouldn't be so nerdy.
She got in with her mom and shut the door softly. She headed straight for the bathroom, she needed a relief.
