Chapter 50: Chapter 40: Review

Many days have passed since I have started traveling with my uncle's guards all the way to Quaran. I think we have finally reached the base of the mountain yesterday and we are now ascending the path to Quaran.

I haven't really been paying attention to the days but, I think the current date is the 10th Day of the 9th Month. That means, I still have 4 days before the Proving actually starts. I think we will be able to arrive earlier than that. We might arrive in 2 or 3 days.

Because of how little time I have left before it starts, I make sure to train every time we take a break by swinging Aether around and sparring with the guards accompanying me. Oh yeah, they introduced themselves and I was able to remember all 9 of their names now. Before, I only really remembered Cyrus, the man who talked about the rumors circulating in Quaran.

The names of the other 8 are: Eli, Nadine, Waylos, Tertio, Ivy, Silas, Kendric, and Coral. Their leaders are Eli and Nadine, who are also the people driving the horse towards our destinations, with everyone else having their own respective jobs. Waylos, Silas, and Coral are mages who use mostly magic attacks.

In my past life, they were called magicians but, I guess mages is just a shorter version. Ivy is the person who finds the most suitable place to camp out while Tertio and Kendric are the main fighters who protects us from monsters.

Speaking of monsters, the only kind that we have encountered are lower-ranking ones, according to Ivy. But, they are entirely new species for me and are different from the ones I saw near Vulcan, which is obviously because of the environmental differences and the impact humans have on it.

The monsters near Vulcan are usually small because being too big in an environment like that will make them overheat a lot of times. They also like to roam near the village as the village is small is very near the forest where they live, making some of the monsters and animals attack.

Quaran, on the other hand, is a medium to large city that sits on a relatively flat part of the mountain lying in the middle area between the peak and the base. Since it is a large city and is not that close to places where animals and monsters might live, it is a generally peaceful place with only occasional attacks on people who stray too far away.

The city is not completely covered in snow as it is not that high up on the mountain but can get a reasonable amount of snowfall. It's economy relies mostly on tourism because of the many vantage points around the city that can give a visitors a nice scenic view.

I've also learnt about combat using magic from Waylos, Silas, and Coral. I am never going to be able to use magic but, I might be needing that knowledge as I might be fighting a person who has that kind of fighting style in the future. You never know.

They said that a mage can only use a certain amount of Mana before he runs out and will need to wait before the Mana recharges. However, I don't think that a person can truly run out of Mana as it is constantly being produced in the soul of that person.

I don't understand the mechanics behind it but, it seems like there is this system inside of a living thing that stops them from using too much Mana. That is just a theory I came up with. It still has one big hole in it though. The MEP Capacity reading on an Analysis Stone.

I can easily say that it isn't a problem if the capacity is only pertaining to the amount a person can use before their body, hypothetically, activates a stopping feature which prevent the usage of any more Mana. But, since I don't know if it is, I can't prove that my theory is correct.

Oops, I think I am getting a bit offtrack right now. I think I should be thinking more about my abilities and how I can improve them right now. Right, my abilities.

Let's see... I have been able to offset my lack of sight using my shadow tendrils to get around. I have also been getting used to using Aether. I am able to incorporate simple sword techniques into my fighting style relatively easily.

The things I will need to work on next are my swordsmanship skills and my god-like energy usage. I think the energy part is out of the question as that would be very conspicuous. So, I just need to learn more advanced sword techniques and hone my basic swords skills. I also need to be able to sense if someone else is near me faster and make my reaction time faster.

That is what I will need to do in the following days.

(How about me?)

At that point, I heard Calido's voice in my head. I am already used to hearing him so I am not that surprised anymore. Hmm, he is talking about himself.

(What do you mean?)

(I mean, you are talking about what you will do to better yourself. So, what will I do?)

So that's what he asking about. That is a tricky question though. I mean, how will I be able to train a Divine Beast and tell him what to do to get stronger? I think that he is much stronger than me at this point.

(Aren't you back to your full strength already?)

(Sadly, I have not regained my previous strength. You see, it seems that since I have been sealed for a long time, my powers over the element of Lava will not return to me until I have gotten much stronger. Right now, I am only able to control the element of Flame, but not too a high degree as my soul is yet to fill the pieces of your soul with Mana.)

So, he is not even at full strength yet, huh. Well, I don't think that I should worry about that yet because I don't think I will run into a problem that will need the assistance of a Divine Beast to confront yet. Plus, it would be better for him to get his powers slowly and normally because if he tries to speed up the process, it might have bad consequences.

(I don't think that you will need to worry about that yet. Just let everything happen naturally and you will eventually get your powers back. Plus, since you are staying away from the carriage, you should be able to test your skills on random monsters and rocks, right?)

(That is what I do when you take a break from your traveling.)

(Then, that's good.)

If he is trying hard then, that's alright. Wait a minute. I feel like I am missing something that could be very important right now.

...

Ah!

(Hey, Calido, you are not too cold outside, right?)

Reptilian monsters like Calido are highly susceptible to the cold because of their slow metabolism. I know he is a Divine Beast but, is he strong enough to ward off the cold when he is currently powered down?

(Do not worry. I am not too bothered by the cold as I am always heating up the air around me.)

That's good.

It's good to know that the first Divine Beast I was able to unseal won't freeze to death because of my negligence.
