Chapter 2: Chapter Two

The blade came down upon him in seconds, as did the ropes covering his entire body, as the wooden stool he'd been forced to stand upon, suddenly fell. Just in time however, was he able to jump down before it completely fell, just in time before it could choke him, bringing him down along with it. Once he had the chance to catch his breath, he removed the brown, dusty, looking rope from arounds his neck, holding it lightly with two fingers, as he stared, with his soft, orange eyes, at those who saved him. Blinking with every bit of confusion, he wasn't just confused, but greatful at the same time. This was not going to be his day. Thank goodness. He had been granted a few more time to remain alive. He turned his head from left to right, taking in the full objects around him. The wooden stage he was standing on in the middle of the town square, gave him extra height, so it was a better view, which helped him find those evil bright blue eyes, the ones he recognized almost instantly. Now he knew why Alice hadn't been there to get in his way, to stop him from getting off the stool, and runing her only means for entertainment, Alice, his older sister, was now very much faar away. Although it was clear to everyone still remaining in the croward of warm and cold ones, that he was the only one who could see her from the far distance in which she was. Her dark, glowing eyes, filled with darkness, and hatred, the chilling, freezing, misty wind, coming off her from her connection between her emotions and powers, he swore he could feel from all the way down in the square.

She was back at the castle. Staring at him from past one of the opened windows. The two only kept contact for a few seconds, before she dramatic moved away. Her body vanishing behind the large wall, separating the two, has Edward felt his stomach drop. Once it did, his eyes widened and he gasped. Barron was still unaccounted for. He made his way down the two wooden steps located behind everything, as he felt the ground underneath his feet. The cold wind brushed past his bare skin in seconds, causing him to chill, as he was forced to freeze exactly where he stood. Holding his head in his hands, as the throbbing pain of the still remaining frostbite effecting his scratch he had in the corner of his head, the scratch now resembling that of pale white. Informing him the scar was certainly infected, if he did nothing to treat it, the freeze would move up to his brain, which in theory, could cause great amounts of damage.

As he tried to get himself to focus, to try his best to move out in front of him, he was at a loss, seeming as though his feet weren't going to obey his commands. The only things he managed to do, was take a few steps forward, then right back. At this rate, he wasn't going to get very far. Cursing under his breath, his hands still pressed firmly on that one specific spot, he was afraid to remove his hands. Even though they only seemed to add more cool, temperature to the wound, for his bare body, was exposed. It would've seemed Alice wanted him to freeze to death before being hanged. Had that been the reason behind her wanting to hang him, without a shirt, or even a cloak? At least something to cover his shoulders? Was she truly that horrible?

To not only watch him die, but to watch the embarrassment of being bare, in front of all your people? Was this truly her reasoning behind everything? Either way, he had to realize. To tell himself, Alice didn't deserve redemption. Not at that cost of her actions, not for any sort of reason. Not after what she'd done, what their father had done? The blame was going to be shared. Evenly, between them both. Between both the traitors.

He struggled getting himself to his feet once he'd fallen. On his knees he remained. As time went by, the pain only grew worse. He could feel the temperature start to drop, the more he struggled, the more his energy became less and less. All the fighting he was doing to keep his brain protected, was starting to make him feel tired, at any moment, he'd be passed out. Unable to fight, as his death comes to him, for a second time, what a truly a unbrearable way to go out. Be rescued only to die from a wound by the hands of your sister?

Again, no mercy would be shown if he somehow made it out alright.

''Why am I always the one who has to rescue you? Haven't you learned by now, Edward?'' Mocked a distant, yet sinister voice. As he tried to rise his head up, so he could see the person's lurking face from behind, he was suddenly pushed back down, by their hand pressed firmly down against the back of his head. Grunting and fighting against the person's strength, he was forced to give up two minutes later. Settling with the mystery he'd never know, he allowed the tension to flee from him, as he kept his head bowed.

''Help me...'' He whispered in despair,

''Yeah, yeah, I got you, bud...'' Replied the voice. ''Firstly, make sure your eyes are closed. I'd rather you not owed me one..'' He hissed. Edward nodded the best he could, to prove he understood, as he clenched his eyes firmly shut. As he waited, the still footsteps of the person, as they moved to his front, from his back. Kneeling down in front of him, their cooling, icy, breath hitting past his cheeks, for every breath of air he took in, as the chill of their fingertips stroked the side of his head. Exactly on the spot in which the frostbite was slowly threatening his brain.

''This will only hurt for a second, after, you shouldn't feel it anymore...'' The voice whispered as he continued to rid the wound of the horrible pain. As Edward felt less and less pain, he felt the weak tired state he'd once been in, suddenly start to fade, as the clang of a sword fell to the payment right next to him. And in seconds, the hovering shadow of the man covered his face, as he was left staring up into the direction of the sky, as he remained still on his knees from his previous position.

The man patted his head lightly, before a small chuckle escaped through his failed attempt at being serious. And at the moment, Edward was able to connect the dots. Revealing to himself who the person was, that was helping him. A smile came to his face, as he relaxed himself. With his eyes still closed, to further the mystery that he was still just clueless, he let out a deep chuckle, as he smirked.

''Have you gone to visit your mother yet?'' He asked, half whispering.

''Nah, I honestly thinks its better if I don't... and god damnit, Edward, you couldn't just let me have this, could you!''

''Of crouse not, now I have to owe you one...'' He replied. ''Honestly? Did you think I wouldn't recognize your voice? Or your magical presence, surely I know it better than anyone..''

''Surely? That might be, but your healed now, no more worrying about those brain cells of yours freezing over, I've taken care of all of that.... I guess you could say, you sort of saved yourself... If it hadn't been for you returning my powers to me.. Thanks for that...'' He whispered, scratching the back of his head nervously, as he pulled Edward back onto his feet. The two, different in height, stood in front of one another, as Edward gave himself the full go to open his eyes.

''Why haven't the others came with you? Bright and Ren I mean?'' He asked, puzzled with confusion. Aaron titled his head a little, as he frowned.

''They didn't know I came without them, someone from this side opened the portal, and I managed to see it, and took my chance to come back! I never told them I was coming here, honestly, I didn't care to tell them. I was escaping, so forgive me if I thought lastly to alert them...'' He snapped.

''That's so like you, anyway, I need to know something? How are you so sane? Last I checked you were under some sort of possession, it was like the vampire persona you have, was calling the shots? Why are you suddenly okay again?''

''I have no idea, I was looking to ask you the same question, that was until I saw you about to be hanged.. couldn't exactly let that happen? Now could I?'' Aaron smiled.

''Guess not, although after this is all over, I think its time we have a sit down, and get some things out in the open? There's somethings I need to clear up with you..'' Edward advised.

''If you think that'll help fix things. I'd be all for it..'' Aaron agreed. ''First, since I don't see him anywhere around here, I'm gonna bet your little friend is trapped inside the castle? Guess you two were timed differently for taking turns with the rope? My, isn't the rope sure lucky today?!'' He joked. Edward frowned as the joke was that of untasteful.

''I admired that you still have the worst timing in the world, tells me your truly you, anyway, take Ren's sword and keep things quiet down here, last thing I need is a mob of angry warm and cold ones, wanting to complete the job the rope couldn't!'' Edward shouted before he left Aaron's side. Aaron who reached to pick up the sword he'd dropped, gripped the handle firmly in one hand, as he focused all his energy on one big frozen ice ball. As he did this, with the last bit of juice he had left, he went for it. Unleashing his full form in one full go, the addrline of everything slip through, mixing into his bloodstream, as for the first time in a long while, he could hear the peaceful, low beat, of his normal heart again.....
