Chapter 68: I'm Going To Take That As A Yes

Maya hugged her knees to her chest. Her arms weren't enough anymore. She was unraveling. 

She barely managed to make it to her room to hide and scream muffled into her pillow, though no one would hear her. Vincent was out in his workshop. This was solely out of habit. To feel in control of a situation where she was completely helpless. 

Every time she wanted someone's love, they hurt her. Why did they always have to hurt her? It had started with her own parents and never got any better. She thought giving up on love would save her but it hadn't. 

Physical abuse…emotional abuse…sexual abuse…financial abuse. She was no stranger to any of it. Why? Why did everything have to happen to her? Why couldn't she escape her past when her present was so much more than she ever thought it could be?

Maya screamed until her voice was gone. Then she lay on the floor staring at the ceiling in utter defeat as the memories continued to overwhelm her.
