Chapter 7: Choosing Weapons
Before this starts, I want to give some more info on the time period and some stuff like birth periods. First, the time period at this moment is the year 1332. Which is 5 years before the hundred year war in Europe. The Great war, not the civil war, takes place between 1350 and 1410. The civil war will take place between 1540 and 1546.
In cannon, Grayfia, Sirzechs, Ajuka etc. were born 50-60 years prior to the civil war, not the great war. That is completely different in this story. Grayfia, Serafall, Ajuka and other characters, like Roygun and Shalba, are born before they were in cannon.
So, for those of you saying, "Don't you mean the civil war?" No. No I don't. I don't know how many times I have to say it, or others need to say it, this is an AU(Alternate Universe), if I write something that doesn't align with cannon, there's a damn good chance I meant how I put it.
Anyways, enough of my mini rant, enjoy. Also I have a lot of stuff to do for school, so if in the next few weeks I can't write chapters then I will post my reserve chapters. But there are only three of those so I might have to just update it when I have time if those run out.

"These crystals are from Agares, they are able to amplify energy that is put into them. If there's a way to reincarnate other races into devils, this would be a good start." I reply to Ajuka.
He raised an eyebrow in curiosity as he picked one up and pushed some of his demonic energy into it. It glowed green in response to his energy, and he stopped channeling his energy, and the crystal dimmed slowly.
"What you're suggesting is that it would act like a focus, and we somehow use that to reincarnate whoever their given to. We'll work with it a bit and let you know the results." He replied after a few seconds.
"No problem, not like we're in a rush. I don't think this is something we should talk about freely anymore though, let's keep it between us for now." I suggested, to which they both nodded in agreement.
I continued, "Well that's all, I'm headed back, gotta spend more time with the girls."
With them saying their farewells, I made a teleportation circle back to the training area of my home. Coming out of the flash of light that accompanies the circles, I saw a orange haired girl watching a black haired girl and silver haired girl launching numerous ice spears at each other.
I walked over to the orange haired girl and sat down next to her, "How's the sparring going?"
She leaned on my shoulder and sighed, "They're still trying to fight over which is better with ice magic."
I rolled my eyes, but watched them fight nonetheless. They weren't just throwing normal ice spears either. Serafall was infusing hers with shards that fly off and create shrapnel, and more water, which made them denser and harder to break. Grayfia was infusing hers with shadows that let them change their trajectory midair and made them harder to see and dodge. Both of them were throwing hundreds of these infused spears at each other every few seconds. Which continued for close to twenty minutes until both were panting from exhaustion. Kouko and I stood up and walked over to them, noticing they were done.
"You girls are getting good at fighting. Keep it up." I said with smile.
They both smiled seeing me and came over hugging me one after the other. "Sure but you're still stronger." Grayfia said, a little bitterly.
"My brother is a freak. I wouldn't use him as a benchmark." Kouko said with a grin.
"Hey, I'm not a freak." I said back with a hurtful expression, which was extremely exaggerated.
She giggled, "Sure, Sure. Spar with me Val."
I nodded and we walked into the center of the training room, standing across from each other. "You know the other two would spar with you right?"
"I know, but I don't have to hold back against you brother, I would be worried about hurting them if I went all out." She didn't let me reply as she rushed towards me, throwing spears of magic reinforced obsidian she learned to make with her matter manipulation, curtesy of myself.
As they reached me, I used matter manipulation to turn them from obsidian into pure oxygen, which harmlessly passed by me. When she got closer, she sent her fist towards my temple.
I took a step to the side and caught her arm, flipping her on the ground before backing up. "You overextended your arm again. I tell you this every time. You have to know CQC if you want to use our family magic better since it has a better effect with direct contact."
"Ugh, I know, but I'm not good at fighting." She complained, but still got up to start training anyways.
I smiled at her, "I know that Ko, that just means you have to work harder. Lets start again, no magic, this is important, so I'm going to train you until I think your good enough and Hand to Hand combat. Then I'll teach you to use a weapon."
Hearing me, my sister paled, she knew how hard I trained, and I wasn't going to let her off before I was satisfied. "Okay..."
My fiancées look at her with pity but I quickly shot down their assumptions, "Don't think you two are out of this either. Actually, lets spar real quick as well. If I'm not satisfied you'll be joining her."
With that I sparred with both Grayfia and Serafall, which my assumptions were correct, they had no experience with CQC. Devils are known for their high magic affinity, but they are also weaker in melee combat. I was planning to change that, for my family at least. I had practiced, and still practice, in CQC some with my mother. She unlike most devils, took the time to properly learn hand-to-hand and swordsmanship.
For the next few hours, I taught the three girls hand to hand combat until it was time for dinner, which is when we stopped for the day. "All right, we can stop for now, but we will continue tomorrow. I don't want you all to go into this war without being able to defend yourself in melee fights." Which they agreed with, albeit reluctantly.
Our week continued and finally after 6 days of training non-stop, I was satisfied with all of their progress. "All right, now that you all are sufficient enough in hand to hand combat, it's time for you all to choose a weapon." With that I brought them over to the weapon racks lining the walls that had various different weapons. There were Various kinds of Swords, Axes, and daggers. Spears, polearms, staves, whips, maces, flails, and even some double bladed swords.
"Alright, I want you to try each of these weapons, I will spar with you once per weapon, whichever one feels best is what you will be learning. Though I am not great with any weapon but a sword, we can go out to the human world and get someone to train you with them." Kouko went first, she started with the longsword, but I didn't even need to spar to see that wasn't a good weapon. She had a visible frown on her face and was constantly repositioning the sword in her grip. "Alright choose a different weapon. You can't even hold it comfortably, much less fight with it."
She nodded and went back. She did the same with every type of sword, until she grabbed a rapier. She could instantly tell the difference and walked over to me, waiting for my instructions.
"Okay, this is a Rapier, they are mainly piercing weapons, but they also have an edge, so you can use them to cut. They are more focused on speed and precision than strength. Let's start."
We sparred for a little while, I had already chosen my weapon, which is a longsword. Kouko was decent with a rapier, but it still wasn't perfect for her. She went back and Grayfia came over with a pair of Tessen, or Japanese battle fans, which unlike the other weapons, were made of actual metal, but these were blunted.
"Ready?" I ask her, seeing her nod I rush at her and do basic attacks, but I never stop pressuring her. She is comfortably able to dodge, block and even counterattack with the fans.
"Good, I assume you tried the other weapons while Ko and I were sparing, were there any others that interested you?"
"No. None of them but these felt comfortable."
"Alright, then we will head to Japan here soon so you can look for someone to teach you."
"Sera, your next." Hearing me, Serafall walks over with, surprisingly, a Naginata in her hands.
"Were there any other weapons that caught your attention?"
"Yeah, just the basic spear did too, but this one felt a bit better."
"Alright, lets try it and if you think it feels good you can come with us when we go to Japan and we can find someone to train you as well."
We sparred for a little while and I had to agree with her, the Naginata was a good fit for her. Last was Kouko who came back with a pair of daggers with chains on them that she tied around her wrists. "Feel better?" I asked her.
"Yes, they do. Though I really don't know who would be able to teach me." She said, slightly gloomy.
"It's fine, we'll look tomorrow when we head to Japan, and if we can't we'll head to other countries and look." I said to her with a comforting tone, which she just smiled at me and nodded back.
"Alright, lets get some rest, tomorrow we'll head out to Japan, so I'll talk to mom about it." Saying this we finish our training and get read to head to Japan for at least a few weeks.
