Chapter 4: A New Start

"Um… I better go, I guess…" Roran said, unsettled by the sudden shake.

"You should. Just think about having your consciousness back into your body, and you'll be out in no time." The dog said.

"Bye."

Roran instantly found himself back into the dimly lit bar. Jordis was standing over him, amused.

"So, out of your soul dimension, I guess," Jordis said with a gleam in his eyes.

"How d'you know!"

"The first time that a person goes into their Vorshmin, the magical essence in the surrounding area gets pulled in, and then absorbed. Also, I punched you."

Roran was slightly peeved at the last statement, but he let it go, "What happens when the magical essence gets absorbed?"

"It gets purified by your body, and then stored. You can utilize this newly created energy, what we call Mana, to manipulate matter."

"I'm a magician?"

"No. You can be, though. I have some friends at the Royal Academy who are very willing to take in a new apprentice," what Jordis did not say was that Roran's magical aptitude, or rather the amount of magic essence absorbed in the beginning, was far superior to any other magician he has ever seen. And Jordis had seen a lot of magicians.

"Royal Academy? What is that?" It sounded very posh and high-class, but Roran didn't exactly know.

"The Royal Academy is situated in Scrycia, the capital. It is a place for teaching magic, the best in our nation. It just also happens to have an administration venue available in Arém. Of course, with me, you don't have to go through all that mess."

"Why are you doing all of this for me?"

"You know what, you're right. I'm helping a bit too much. So, take these, and get to the Royal Academy. They'll know who you are."

Roran was a bit confused by this sudden change of attitude, but still took what Jordis offered him: two gold coins, and a map to the Royal Academy.

"Oh, also, kill some monsters. They have useful stuff."

Then Jordis, stood up from his chair, and ambled out of the door to the tavern. Not a single person dared to meet his gaze.

"I guess I'll have to leave too," Roran muttered to himself. He also walked outside, into the setting sun.
