Chapter 99: Two coins cut from the same cloth

Leandre's face remained calm and composed, betraying nothing of the turmoil raging inside him as he listened to Clary's words. His eyes blazed with intensity as they fixed on her, but she didnot meet his gaze, instead looked away. It was a bitter pill to swallow as if a thousand jagged knives had plunged into his heart at once. He planned to reveal the truth of his birthmark once he had concrete evidence that Astraea had forged it on her hand. 

Looks like he had made a mistake. Knox omitted the information about Astraea revealing the golden-half wing on her hand to Clary in the hospital. Had he known, he would have cleared the misunderstanding on that day itself. The last thing he wanted was a misunderstanding between them.

Leandre asked, his voice commanding attention, "What tidings did she reveal concerning the bir..tattoo?" He corrected the word to tattoo, not wanting to startle her with the sudden revelation that it was a birthmark.
