Chapter 289: I'm Sorry, Baby

The demon's words stung. Of course Kael cared! But he knew from the start that he was never supposed to stay in the human world. His job was done. He was supposed to go home and be where he belonged. 

"Listen here, demon—"

Kael didn't get the chance to say what he wanted to because the dog began barking, needing to go out and relieve itself. That woke Lady Ava up with a jolt. 

"What is it, Duffy?" she asked with a yawn. 

"I believe she needs to go out. I can do that much," Kael sighed. "Then I'll get back to resting after I eat something, before you object."

"Okay. Thanks." 

He reattached the dog's wheels and took it out, feeling very conflicted. Should he warn her of the demon's intentions? Or would she not care because she would be that relieved not to have to be alone?
