Ace scowled. He didn't like anything about this. 

He walked over and scooped up Cora, being mindful of any potential injuries, and looked at Officer Riley. "My number is the same. Call me if you have more questions. I'm taking her to the hospital." 

"…I'll be in touch. I'll need to speak with you again about that previous police report and getting that restraining order filed, Miss Bailey."

Cora recited her number for him tiredly and didn't say anything even once they were in the car. Ace didn't know what to say either. He had so many questions and couldn't get a single one to come out.
