"Are you sure, El,?" Evelyn asked as a wide smirk appeared on her face. She had lost most of her pieces and was about to get checkmated just then her gaze fell on his king who had no pieces to protect itself. She took her rook and gave a check to his king and won the game in the end.
"Check and mate," she said and got on her feet to do a small victory dance.
"Wait…How?!" He was shocked to see that even though he was having more pieces, he lost the match. "I had more pieces than you. How did you win?" He asked, looking confusingly at her.
The butler who stood there replied, "Master, the count doesn't matter if the king is unsafe."
Evelyn saw him lower his gaze and let out a sigh. She was extremely happy that she won another task, balancing their score.
