Chapter 411: Seeing Brilliant Stars

Michael takes a moment to unscramble his thoughts but finds himself regaining his composure remarkably quickly despite almost having his head torn off by whatever had just hit him...

Uh... You've got something on your face." Irarus says, pointing at the thing embedded in Michael's Dragon Priest Mask.

Michael takes the mask off and looks at it, but is caught slightly off guard by the massive feeling of loss when it's removed... Turning the mask over, he spots a brightly glowing yellow gem embedded firmly into the blue metal of the Dragon Priest Mask... "Yeah, this would have killed me without the face protection." he comments, more to himself than anything while thinking just how sharp the yellow crystal's edges looked.

"T-this!" Ennura gasps as she looks at it, "I know what this is... Or should be! It's the Ata'mal crystal! One of Eredar's most ancient and valuable treasures... Or... It was? This is only a shard of it, t-that explosion from earlier must have been it shattering!"

"B-by the light... The Eredar truly are finished, aren't we? These fiends will tear down everything, every piece of heritage our ancestors had left us..."

"Sorry, but what does this 'Ata'mal crystal' do?" Michael asks, wanting to understand if wearing his 'newly modified mask' was safe or not. He wouldn't want to get blasted constantly in the face by radiation or something just for wearing it...

Ennura lets out a sigh, "I don't know... Legends say it's made from crystallized light granted by benevolent gods. But I'm not aware of any uses it had."

Michael shakes his head, "Whatever, let's just get started opening the portal out of here. Now that Velen's gone the demons'll turn their attention to us... The Great Library's barrier is like a lighthouse to these fucks."

As the group make their way down the stairs, he checks his status in the Book of Legends, along with storing the Dragon Priest Mask in his inventory to see if that'd give him any indication fo what'd changed.

Inventory :

[Brilliant Star/Morokei]

...

"So, the gem is called Brilliant Star? That doesn't help at all..." he mutters to himself, wishing that the inventory would just give a basic description of the items he owned.

"Heh, nice." he mutters as he looks at his stats and their massive improvements. He didn't feel any difference, but he was sure it'd be noticeable to the Tiffania and the others if they saw him in action.

His Swordsmanship had also improved. Which would make it Master tier while he was using his runes... Oh, he really wanted to try it out. Hmm, he'd have to do it once he returned to Skyrim with the Draenei...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, EXP from demons is way, way better than zombies or humans. He'd have to come back to this place when he got the chance. As for his Silencer Spirit, he instantly levelled [Global Silence] to max despite his worries over its use. In a pinch, it may just save his or someone else's ass.

Everything was maxed too apart from Last Word which Michael viewed as less useful than the other abilities.

Chapter 412: Archimonde

Michael and the others quickly make their way down to where all the other survivors were, where he immediately gets to work opening a Dimension Gate back to Skyrim. He had no idea when the Burning Legion would target the Great Library, but it was better to be safe than sorry, especially when there was potentially a demon god going after them.

The Draenei who were versed in magic watch on with interest as he performs the stupidly long chant to actually cast the spell, each of them appraising it and comparing it to their own schools of magic.

Michael is actually surprised at how quickly he was going through the laborious chant. Usually, it went far slower than this... Was this an effect of the Brilliant Star gem that was lodged in his Dragon Priest Mask?

Unfortunately, it appears that Michael's worries were justified, as the sound of fighting was intensifying on the lower levels, the roars of demons and churning of the Vigilants fighting against them echoing throughout the building.

"Block the staircase! We must buy time for Michael to open the portal!" Irarus orders as he makes his way over and smashes the base of one of the stone bookshelves, afterwards pushing it over so it crashes in front of the entrance.

The other Draenei quickly begin helping too, and once the entrance was completely blocked by stone, some ice mages reinforced it by freezing the entire thing in a seriously hard block of magical ice. Even a magically enchanted war hammer would have trouble dealing any significant damage against it... Though, demon fire would probably get through it eventually.

Darth slips through the shadows and scouts around the lower levels before quickly returning, "Demons have destroyed almost all of the Vigilants, Master. There is also one of the local race making his way up."

...

Michael can only crook at brow at the report, not being able to stop the chant for fear of having to begin at the start.

Fortunately, Ennura was nearly and clearly heard the Familiar, even if she was wary of how similar Darth was to some of the demons that'd invaded the world, specifically the dark magic some used.

"A survivor-...? No... It must be one of the traitors if they are able to walk among the invaders." she looks towards the other mages, "Reinforce the blockade for a magical attack! We must hold the line!" she orders.

She receives many nods, and not a moment later the blockade shimmered and rippled with the magical energy of many mages all working in concert.

Things weren't fated to be easy however, as the wall next to the blockade is blown open by a fiery green explosion, incinerating two unlucky Draenei who'd been standing there.

"Hmph, such weakness. Are you not all ashamed of yourselves? You are everything wrong with our race, and I'm glad for the opportunity to purge you." a dark and powerful voice growls as its owner steps through the smoke, revealing itself as a huge Draenei male with brightly glowing green eyes. They were dressed in traditional golden Draenei robes that were affixed with many gems... Though, they were splattered with blue blood and ragged from battle.

"M-Master Archimonde!?" Umnii and a few other Mages utter, half hopefully while half were afraid... News of his and Kil'jaeden's betrayal hadn't been relayed to everyone, so some were confused by the sudden turn of events.

Demons gathered around the breach in the wall that Archimonde had created, all awaiting his order to devour the survivors in the library.

Archimonde nods, "It is I. But I have pledged myself to a greater task, and an even greater Lord." his eyes skim along the people, noting that most of them were mages or scholars of one sort or another, "I had come with the intention of wiping you out like the ants you are, but perhaps some of you deserve a chance... Pledge yourselves to me, the Burning Legion, and our Lord Sargeras, and you will be spared." he says, his voice a low growl that grates against the ears and projects power with every word.

Irarus' face was one of sheer rage when he hears this, "You betrayed your race and world, traitor! If our ancestors could see you now they'd have crushed your head as a babe!" he exclaims, spitting on the floor in front of Archimonde.

Archnimonde just sniffs in derision, waiting to see if all the survivors thought the same... Surprisingly, one person did accept the offer...

Khaam throws down his spear and walks over to Archimonde, dropping to a knee while not daring to glance back at the people he'd just betrayed. "I am your, my Lord."

Archimonde gives a foul smile, "Of course you are." he remarks as he pushes a glowing green hand against Khaam's chest, causing his skin to burn and blister, this spreads from the initial touch to the rest of his body, eventually rendering him a burnt screaming man...

A snap of Archimonde's fingers later and the burns disappear, revealing a red-skinned Khaam who was looking far more muscular, while his facial tentacles were tipped with bone-like protrusions and his horns grew far more menacing than before.

The survivors gaped at this change, their blue faces looking tinged with green at the mutations. Michael didn't see anything disgusting about it, but apparently, his sense of aesthetics was different to theirs as a few even vomited at the sight.

"Khaam... You..." Irarus mutters before shaking his head and gripping his war hammer. "I'll crush your damned skull, betrayers!"

'Shit.' Michael intones, as he was only three quarters through the chant. He highly doubted the survivors would be able to fight off Archimonde and the other demons long enough... Luckily, they weren't completely alone... Darth had drawn Derflinger from his sheath and was preparing to strike at Archimonde, the magic absorbing sword and sneaky familiar should prove enough of a distraction... Or at least, Michael hoped they would.
