Chapter 18: XVIII

The gate was tightly shut with more guards guarding the gate of the city. Some other guards were searching around from house to house and from shop to shop to find the culprit.

It was done in a very haphazard way that the prince could not help but feel offended that such an order was given with his identity. He will never give such an order that will lead to such a disorganized behavior.

"We are locked in and you certainly can not use your identity as king to leave the city," the prince's companion told him with an accusing look. He immediately shook off that expression when his eyes met the eyes of the prince.

"I really should have stopped them earlier, right?" He asked his companion when he noticed the accusing gaze.

"Yes and we would have been able to find out who they are that way," the companion strongly agreed while energetically nodding his head.

"Who will they believe when I walk out like this and claim that I am prince Viktor?" he asked with a frown. "They will believe them," he answered his question when his companion shut his mouth despite knowing what the answer was. "We might get arrested with them and you know I snuck out of the camp."

"Yes," the companion said looking down unhappily.

"Don't worry. We will simply go over the wall," he told his companion with a pat on his shoulder. "We don't have time to waste."

The wall was not as guarded as gate and soon the two of the got over the wall and headed towards the military camp on their foot.

Running, Prince Viktor could not help but feel anger towards those people who used his identity.

"Your highness, wait," his companion suddenly said breathing heavily.

Viktor stopped with an impatient frown. "We don't have time to waste we need to get to the camp so we could get a horse and find them. We have to do that before they get too far."

"What if . . . What if they went to the camp with your identity?"

That question made the prince feel a certain amount of fear he has not felt in a while. If they have gone to the camp, how will he be able to prove his identity?

He groaned and looked towards the military camp where he lived almost all his life in and laughed off that possibility nervously. He gulped and wiped off a cold sweat from his brow. "There is no way they will believe an imposter. The general will recognize me immediately."

"We can't be late," the prince companion reminded the prince whose mind began to wander as he tried to persuade himself that the general will recognize him.

"Oh. That is right," the prince agreed and went after him.

"Seer," Aurora had to called out to her teacher who kept leading the way away from the gate of the city.

The seer stopped her horse with the 'soldiers' behind her and looked back. Aurora also stopped and the seer turned her horse to face her.

"I knew you were Darlene from the moment we rode out of the city gates. Viktor might have left the palace when he was young but I know him well enough to know that you were an imposter. Have you been following us? To make sure I don't run away without killing him?"

Aurora held back her emotions and hid them well in her expressionless look and toneless voice.

"No, Princess. Don't get too worked up. I was only in the city when you were in the city. I then decided to help you out," the seer told her carelessly not bothered by how unpersuasive she sounded.

"I did not ask for your help," Aurora told her and rode off followed by Helen.

She really did not ask for her teacher's help why then should her teacher appear almost everywhere like she was trying to escape and not kill the Alpha. Can't they trust her for once?

"Aurora, we have met twice only by coincidence and I think you should be grateful to me not getting angry with me."

"Fine, I am grateful. Is that good enough?"

"No, it is not. An apology is needed."

Aurora pulled the reins and stopped the horse. "Thanks for the disguise and I am sorry," she said with her hands tightly gripping the reins. She gulped and sighed before going off once again.

She has never been fully comfortable in the presence of the seer. Now the new feeling she felt of being watched closely every hour by the seer did not make her feel good at all.

She was really grateful for the help her teacher gave her but if it continues this way, it will only make her feel like she is been watched constantly by her teacher who was a witch and that is not something she wanted to experience.

As though reading her mind, her teacher gave her an understanding smile. "I will leave then. After all you can do it on your own."

Aurora looked back at the witch's departing back. All the soldiers that were once with her were now gone and the seer was back in her normal form.

Aurora at Helen and continued down the part she was destined to go. She was aware that there was a village very close by and she wanted to stop there to rest. Her day have been filled with drama and she needed rest.

When they found a farmer who was nice enough to give them his barn for them to sleep in since it was empty and ready to be filled after harvest, Aurora could finally rest.

She was not bothered by anything external especially the coldness of the night and the hardness of the floor she had to sleep on as her thoughts wandered towards why her room was set on fire.

She glanced at her maid who was still awake looking so scared of even closing her eyes not to talk of sleeping. After the fire incident, she was aware that someone was after her life. She did not intend to give up on vengeance and she was going to continue her journey.

She only hopes they don't try to burn down the poor farmer's barn or she will have to add more silver coins to the ones she has already given him and reduce the money they were left to survive with.

"The fire . . ." Helen started looking down at her fingers.

"You don't need to talk about it. I am sure it was traumatizing. You need to rest first."

"Oh . . ." Helen murmured with a conflicted expression and rested her head against the wall of the barn.
