Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Man is Closed-Minded

Out in the field, he spots Grigori, who slides a longbow off his shoulder. The beast of a man grabs an arrow from the quiver on his back. He sets the nock on the string and aims. His long, nimble fingers release the flint-tipped weapon.

The arrow whistles over Ambrose's head.

Both Helios and Maliaki follow suit, each in turn launching arrows.

The three gargouilles continue to fire on the guards perched inside the lookout tower on top of the castle wall.

The wheat sways then parts. Concealed inside the ripe crop, more winged fighters with longbows and swords advance.

"Go." Grigori motions to Ambrose. "Retrieve our Queen Mother." He discharges another arrow.

A human guard falls off the wall. The man lands at Ambrose's feet.

"Together," shouts Grigori, "we shall liberate your crown."

Footsteps pound on the other side of the garden wall, and horns blare, announcing the attack on the castle.
