Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Unlike most people, he couldn't use the techniques he learned in combat. But in compensation he learns to inscribe them. When he activated his claws, he saw the distance immediately. Instead of 3 inches of fire coming out of each nail to form into a claw, his entire hand was wrapped in fire with 7 inch curved nails. He could now also retract the nails to decrease the curve and increase the maneuverability. He also took this time to name the ring [Tiger's Fire]. It definitely wasn't the most original name, but it annoyed him that his first creation was unnamed.

A few minutes later his entire body began to shake, but it wasn't just him. Both him and two other kids, one boy and one girl, were shocked as well. Within 10 minutes they were throwing up black sludge that seemed to be endless. It took the 3 of them around 30 minutes before it had finally stopped. Compared to jumping into that pool of ki it was easy, but the discomfort was no joke. He stood up and could feel the improvements to his balance and body. His strength stat had doubled and the rest definitely were not neglected.

He was extremely happy about the improvements… until he remembered his situation. He still couldn't take on the behemoth of muscle that was holding him captive. About 15 minutes had passed when they were all shuffled out of the barn into the arena across the desert town. It was a sandstone coliseum with more than 200 people in the stands. Slave fights had multiple uses. First people would bet on the which made the arena a load of money, and on of that people would pay to put their slaves there to show them off and increase the bid price on them. There was of course an entrance fee for guests and snacks and drinks to buy making it the most profitable business around. All of this combine made slave fights very popular and had people setting up arenas everywhere. The arena had a VIP box with sect scouts, rich nobles, and the owner.

Jack walked out into the arena, both excited to fight and fearful of the future. He stood in his corner, waiting for his opponent.

The hardened flame sect was known for the extremely high production of fire magic items and stones. This was because they were built inside of a mountain rich with fire ki and flame related beasts. The main product they sold was a sword that would be graded as common quality that could cover itself in flames. It was most commonly called the re-forging blade because as it was damaged it would repair itself and become stronger. The quality could even go above an epic, even though nobody could make it that far. It also still had common level abilities even with better strength. It would fall out of use by the time it had peak uncommon rank, but some would take it further.

Only 2 scouts came to this match, one from the hardened flame and one from the nature's beauty sect, who held mostly life element dual cultivators and was known for having extremely beautiful men and women that would be high end escorts or paid concubines.

Another slave emerged into the coliseum, a large man almost 7 feet tall holding a pair of blades. Jake could feel the power of this emanating off man as his eyes widened in fear. He backed away as the 2 blades were stabbed into the ground, at that moment Jake breathed a huge sigh of relief as he understood that this was not his opponent, but instead the referee of sorts. He knew this man was at least level 10, and he wouldn't stand a chance if they fought. After he left, an older man in his late 60's or 70's was thrown out into the arena. He was skinny and looked like he was already on the verge of death.

"The rules are simple, fight until one of you can no longer continue. Winner shall get a low level technique book if not purchased, now fight. The old man lunged at Jake with insane speed, taking only a few seconds to grab both swords and slash at him. This man was ruthless, but so was Jake. Claws erupted from his hands and blocked the attack with ease, countering with a slash in the stomach. His body was split into 6 severed chunks.

The crowd was surprised to say the least. They just watched a young teen easily slaughter a skilled opponent who was equipped with weapons and intent to kill. It had ended just like that as Jake was shuffled back to the barn. When he arrived, he checked his status.
