Chapter 11: Chapter 11 A Quarrel
"Daniel doesn't love me, does he? I thought that if I could always love him, finally he would love me back. But now I know I'm wrong."
Laura was upset to hear this. But since Chloe had already canceled the engagement, what else could she do?
She felt so humiliated that all celebrities must be gossiping about the scandal despite their smile and silence on the surface.
Every time she thought of this, she found it hard to breathe. "Becky, take Chloe upstairs to have a rest."
Of course, Chloe noticed her mother's unhappiness, and she wanted to explain that she canceled the engagement because she was reborn. But she couldn't. Nor would Laura believe.
In the end, she said nothing and let Becky push her upstairs quietly.
Back in the bedroom, after hearing the unpleasant conversation between them, Becky comforted Chloe, "Miss Chloe, don't be mad at Mrs. Laura. She has received so many calls recently. Grandpa Johnson always loves you deeply and doesn't say anything. But Mrs. Laura must do something to soothe the situation."
Chloe knew Becky was right but she was still in a bad mood.
"By the way, Becky, where is grandpa?"
When Becky was about to leave, Chloe suddenly asked.
Becky shook her head, "Grandpa Johnson wants to stay alone for some peace these days."
Chloe nodded and closed her eyes.
At noon, Chloe didn't come downstairs for lunch.
Becky had been taking care of Chloe since she was a child, so she treated Chloe like her own granddaughter. Out of care, she wanted to send her some food.
However, Laura stopped her, "Becky, go ahead with your own business. Chloe will come downstairs if she wants to eat something."
It was until nightfall that Chloe limped down with her crutch.
Seeing this, Becky was going to help her, but she was stopped by Laura again. "She is not disabled and she can walk on her own."
In the next few days, Laura kept indifferent to Chloe, which depressed her a lot.
"Miss Chloe, Mrs. Laura asked you to change into decent clothes and have dinner with the Bruce family tonight."
Forced to stay home for a long time, Chloe was finally able to go out.
Breathing the fresh air, she looked up and felt the tenderness of the sunset.
"Move fast. You want to keep others waiting for you?" Laura sneered strictly.
Chloe got used to her strict style. In the Johnson family, Laura was always strict to her, while Grandpa Johnson spoiled her.
As for her father, Ben Johnson, he had always devoted himself to scientific research. He once said, "Don't disturb me unless Chloe is getting married."
So today, he specially flew back overnight to check her daughter as he heard the news that Chloe had canceled the engagement.
They met before the hotel.
Ben was angry but as he saw Chloe injured, he sighed and decided to let it go.
"Naughty girl! Look what you have done! Your mom is so worried about you," Said Ben in a reproachful but caring tone.
Laura heard this and got even unhappier, "If you stay home with us, I will feel so relieved rather than driven crazy by this little monster!"
Ben patted Chloe on her head, and then hurriedly turned to comfort his wife.
"Kevin, long time no see." Chloe greeted politely.
At this time, Kevin Johnson, the man who had been standing behind Ben looked up. He stared at Chloe with a pair of deep eyes, which made him look a little indifferent.
Accustomed to this, Chloe was still asking politely, "Kevin, when will you come back home?"
"We will discuss it later," Kevin said indifferently without any emotions.
Chloe understood his indifference.
They were brother and sister of the same father but different mothers. After Ben got married in an early age, his first wife died of massive hemorrhage because of blood donation to her one-year-old child. So Kevin lost his mother when he was young, and then Laura married Ben when Kevin was in primary school.
As far as Chloe could remember, Kevin never paid much attention to her, but he didn't cause any trouble against her either.
Laura walked over and spoke to Kevin gently.
"Kevin, I like the skincare products you gave me last time. Thank you."
The relationship between Laura and Kevin was also kind of strange and polite. Naturally, they were not so close.
"I'm glad you like it, Auntie."
Actually, Kevin had never called Laura mom, but Laura didn't mind that, and she totally understood him.
"Well, Kevin has recently completed another major experiment. I want him to come back and take over the Johnson Group. But he doesn't take my advice at all. Laura, please help me persuade him to come back!"
Laura stopped Ben, "Enough now. Let him do whatever he likes. It's none of your business. Why don't YOU come back?"
Hearing this, Ben was speechless.
After checking the time, Chloe took the lead in moving forward slowly, "Let's go then. It's inappropriate to let them wait."
Laura and Ben realized that they began to kid around as soon as they met. They could not help but smile at each other.
In the meantime, a luxurious car suddenly stopped behind them and Daniel got out.
The limited-edition supercar was flamboyant and wild, which was totally incompatible with his calm and reserved personality.
"Hello, Mr. Ben, Mrs. Laura." Daniel greeted them politely with a nod.
When he saw Kevin, he also nodded slightly.
Seeing Daniel, Chloe waved her hand, "Hello, Mr. Bruce."
Daniel looked at Chloe, an imperceptible smile on his face, "I almost forgot something, but seeing you here reminds me of it."
Slowly, he stood before Chloe, looking at her in a commanding way. His eyes were so dazzling, which bewitched her like magic.
Chloe controlled herself from being attracted, biting her lip and asking gently, "Mr. Bruce, how are you doing recently?"
Daniel didn't answer in a hurry. Instead, he took the temporary wheelchair from a waiter beside him. Before carrying Chloe into the wheelchair, he took away her crutch and handed it to the waiter.
He did these so smoothly and naturally, but Chloe blushed about his habit of looking after her.
"What a kind gentleman Daniel is! Now, look at my naughty daughter!" Laura snorted coldly.
After Chloe canceled the engagement, the Bruce family never complained even once. The two families were still as close as before, for which the Johnson family had been very grateful.
Chloe coughed to ease her embarrassment.
In fact, she missed what Laura said completely. Because what Daniel said still lingered in her mind.
When no one was paying attention, Daniel whispered in her ear in a tempting tone, "After what you did to me, you are just going to run away?"
