“No, I guess it’s a bit tricky.” Ghurva shrugged. Tricky. Being a linguist, he probably didn’t find it tricky at all.

“What does it mean, being mated?”

Ghurva blinked. “It means he’s your other half. Your focus will always be on him. You’ll never want to be apart. You can’t. The stories talk about people dying simply because their mate died.”

Fear gripped Zenon’s heart. Carlo was fragile. He’d have to protect him at all times, had to keep him away from everything and everyone.

“His happiness will be the most important thing to you.” He was quiet for a few seconds. “But we can’t turn back, Zenon.”

“Turn back?” They wouldn’t turn back.

“Yes. Carlo might want to go back, as his mate, you’ll want him to get his will, but we can’t.”

Carlo hadn’t said anything about turning back. “Where is Grace?”

Ghurva’s eyes lit up. “She’s taking a nap.”

“A what?”

“I was about to add it to the translation system. It means a short rest.”
