“Yes.”

“Are you heading my way?” The promise in his voice made Arlo cringe. Deon had a way of sounding pleasant, but it always ended with Arlo wanting to cry, not that he did. There was no use in crying, and he always agreed to do what Deon wanted him to do so it was his own fault. Deon hadn’t forced him.

“No…I wasn’t planning on it.” He looked around and took another turn. The sun disappeared behind the trees, and the light was quickly fading.

“I can come to you.”

“Deon—”

“No, babe, I’ve been thinking. I got scared, okay? I had no idea anyone could do what you did. What are you anyway?”

Nash flashed before Arlo’s eyes. Hot chocolaty eyes studying Arlo from where he sat in the coffee shop, then amber eyes and sharp teeth. It had still been Nash, though. He didn’t look the same, but it had been Nash.

“Arlo?”

“Yeah, sorry.” He had no idea what he was if it even had a name.

“Come home.”
