As they got out of the car, Carl’s secretary, Gregory Wells, greeted them at the door.

“Carl, Washington wants you to call right after the speech tonight. They’ve secured the satellite connection.”

“Of course. How have things been here?”

“Two broken windows on the south side. The French news people were doing a taping and someone was showing off. Nothing really to worry about.”

“Remember to stay away from the windows once it starts to get dark,” Carl reminded his aide. “You sure you want to stay? You can still get a last flight out.”
