“I’m not sure yet,” I said. “But once I’m up there, I’m going to have a lot of time to think.”

He laughed. “Well, make sure you don’t grow a beard and carry an axe.”

Cameron would be all right. Besides, I’d always make sure he was. This time around, I wouldn’t abandon anyone to save my own skin.

“Are you nervous about seeing your sister and Dayton?”

“Yeah, a little.”

Cameron’s eyes widened and he clapped his hands. “I got an idea.” He climbed out of bed and went to mycloset. “I saw this on a show once…see, all these letters, they’re keeping you attached to those mistakes you feel you made. They’re reminding you of it and it’s almost like…Well, remember when we met? I could see those letters on you. Do you know what I mean?”

“I guess so, yeah.”

He pulled the box out and opened it. “You should burn them, Allan. Every one of them.” He picked a pileup. “All these words…what do they really mean now?”
