“Well, tell me then. Or has the cat got your tongue?” he laughed at the pun.

Dan shook his head. “No, sir. It’s a cat o’ nine tails…sir.”

“Very good. You know what we do with a cat o’ nine tails, boy?”

Dan nodded again, his fear and confusion rising. This was not the Damion he was falling in love with. This was that other Damion he’d glimpsed a week earlier.

Damion ran the tails over Dan’s back, then swung them so they lightly struck him. Dan tensed. Damion repeated his actions several times. Each time he hit Dan slightly harder—never to the point of pain, but enough that it made Dan tense in anticipation of the next stroke.

“Don’t worry. I won’t whip you this time. I’ll let you think about it some,” Damion whispered in Dan’s ear.
