“What’s skill number one?”

“Trust no one.”

“Who told you that?”

“The Master Trainer, sir.”

“The Master Trainer? And which one of us is the Master Trainer?”

‘Oh, shit,’ Cam thought, had he just backed her into another corner? “You are, sir,” she answered tentatively.

“And what is a “you”?” came the question Cam expected.

“It’s a female sheep, sir.”

Charlie stepped right up into her face, only this time, Cam saw a twinkle of humor in his eyes. “No, Ms. Andrews,” he said slyly, “it’s a personal pronoun. Now, what’s skill number two?”

Maggie looked at the clipboard in her hands.

“Three more days. How do you feel?”

Cam lay back on the couch in the living room, watching the ceiling fan make its slow revolutions above her.

“Maggie, I’ve never felt like this before. I’m sore but I’m happy. I’m sad but I’m excited. I want to get back and get started but I don’t want this to end.”

“Charlie seems pleased. Has he spoken to you?”
