Chapter 7: Chapter 7

The tepid shower water took longer to wake her than it usually did. She stood there and let it course down her back, trying to decide if she had the courage to flip the faucet over to the cold setting. Just as she thought she might be able to take the freezing water that came directly out of the pipes in March, she decided she was awake enough to forego it and turned the knob to off instead.

She knew the way to the Langley, Virginia facility, even though the signs directing traffic to the Agency’s headquarters had long ago been removed, by executive order.
