I realized he was waiting for an answer when he raised a brow, and quickly blurted, “Yes, sir.”

He petted my head with one hand, then stroked my short beard. He gripped the hairs on my chin and tugged, and the bite of pain, subtle though it was, made my knees shake.

“Good cub,” he repeated, and dear gods did I love hearing that from him. It filled me with a sense of warmth, that praise. “Take off your clothes, fold them, and place them on top of the dresser.”
